'Day To Remember' Honors Watertown Teen Who Committed Suicide | WWNY TV 7 - News, Weather and Sports for | Local News

There is a justifiable reluctance in the media to cover suicides in any more than most perfunctory way, but a teen taking her own life on public property allegedly due to bullying does make the sad tale noteworthy.
The death of Erin Foley on JCC property this week has created a stir in social media with fellow students organizing a 'day to remember'.
It goes without saying the death is a tragedy and the issue of bullying is not new, but has received increased attention of late.
The Internet provides an amplified venue for such razzing.
A dialogue on the matter, whether at the dinner table or the classroom, will surely occur.

I don't like to hear it characterized as being "because of bullying". Millions are bullied everyday and yet they don't choose to turn to this sort of tragic remedy. Decades ago, the college semesters were cut to the shorter 15 weeks that we have today, due to the high rate of college student suicide at the end of the year. Point being that there are many factors going on in a person life that can be the final straw but the actual cause is sever depression.

I have reports that this student was a very nice young lady and my heart and prayers go out to her family and friends.

That's what every person who decides to kill theirselfs thinks of. They will remember me. That's the sad darn truth in it all.

Stop it with the bullying crap. The reason the girl killed herself is she couldn't cope with the problems of life. It wasn't global warming, chicken feed costs, or the lack of green jobs. It was the personal problems of a young person. Mr Mayor, please resist the urge to jump on the stupidity bandwagon. You've been resistant in the past. Keep up the good work.

Unlike the ignorants who posted earlier, I don't know ...

but I do know such as these ignorants are of the clique who find it necessary to dismiss the deceased because to consider the 'cause' of 'bullying' would force them to acknowledge the truth that many of their children are nasty, viscious creatures who daily take sadistic delight in tormenting 'outsiders' who cannot escape since they are forced into the situation by The State.

By putting the blame on bullying we then can justify all the councilers jobs in the various School districts, theres no blame here, just a sad ending to a promising life.

Yeah, 7:00pm is really smart. The State forced them into the situation. What a friggin dope.

Yes mayor, please resist the urge to jump on 5:51’s stupidity bandwagon.

What are you talking about mayor? Let’s get something straight -- there is no such thing as ‘bullying.’ It doesn’t exist in our culture. It’s a myth that is perpetuated by the liberal media and other left wing loonies.

These so called acts of bullying are only innocent high school ‘pranks.’ You don’t have to take my word for it, just ask Mitt Romney.

I do however; sincerely apologize if I ‘unintentionally’ offended anyone with my comment -- even though I can’t remember writing it.

Didn't say it didn't exist. In fact, it has always existed. Get over it 1:02. Rather than boo hooin' about it, teach kids to deal with it effectively. The reason you can't remember writing it is you're brain dead. But you really feel. So that's important in today's world. Feeling is much more important than thinking. You could be, like, a school official or even, like, a teacher, like.

This is so crazy and even her dad went up to Kelsey Creek apartments cause her phone was thought to be there. The father told many people that were searching the apartment complex for her that she was very depressed. I wish the Watertown PD would have done a better job with locating her cell phone signals because this young lady may still be with us today and she would have gotten the help she needed. I was bullied too and it sucks. No one is 100% sure if bullying was the true reason this young lady took her life. She might have a lot of other stuff going on. That's why it's always good to have good communication with your loved ones

You mean like Mitt?

Why thank you 7:34PM, I truly appreciate your comment. And who knows, maybe YOU could become like one of those delusional partisan right wing media hacks like on Fox News or something. You evidently have the right personality and you come pre-programmed with all the usual ad nauseam talking points. If you like you can even use me as a personal reference.

No need to thank me, as usual, it’s my pleasure little buddy.
