D'Amato is Poker Players Friend

The Bill Owens trip to Taiwan story can be tied back to something called the Poker Players Alliance, which is headed up by none other than former Senator Al D'Amato, who arranged for the Congressman's free trip to the island nation.
I guess the PPA claims to represent over a million people on matters of Internet gambling. The poker reference came up in a WDT story I was reading today, so I Googled the former Senator and this PPA thing was right there.
How was on line poker going to bring jobs to NNY ?

We would be hiring new gambling addict social workers?

Poor Mike he woke yesterday with what he thought was going to be good then he found another one of hero's was just another political tool. Now today he finds out it invokes online gambling and DAmato.

I wish I wrote this sums it up

"If I was offered an all-expense paid trip to Taiwan worth $22,000 I would ask why," Barie said. "And if I didn't ask why, I would be called stupid or dishonest or both.

"My congratulations to Mr. Owens," he added. "He has transformed himself from hometown boy into a corrupt Washington politician."

Takes real balls to ask and get your wife in on first class tickets, maybe mike can explain how she is vital to representing the district.

Ha! Now he has paid back the money for the free trip and thus essentially admitted wrongdoing. Another dumb move by the smartest attorney in...Plattsburgh. He could have must been defiant and claimed that he was just doing the job he barley got elected to do, but instead he caves.

Hey!...Where's the Nancy Pelosi guy?...It turns out Bill has been hanging out with "Big "Al"...But, I suppose that's OK because he's a Republican?...Ha!

Nope. Hanging with either Nancy or big Al is sickening. I don't recall the Nancy Pelosi guy ever endorsing D'Amato, but don't let that stop you from engaging in your logical phallus see.

Okay, here I am - hang on tight:

This is the classic case of what is precisely wrong today. What is wrong is shared by both Rep. Owens and Mr. Doheny, and I’m being extremely fair here to both them, believe me.

1. Mr. Owens says he will repay the money. Come on, Mr. Owens: You should not have gone on the all-expense trip paid for by any lobbyist; then or in the future, period. If a trip like that was critical for your duties, then make it for official business and get Uncle Sam to pick up the tab. Then there are no questions. Otherwise, stay in the kitchen and take the heat and appear pretty unethical, at least in my view. And, one sponsored by D’Amato – whoops, the first clue.

2. For Mr. Doheny's camp: Shut up. This is not the first case of such nonsense. You are milking the wrong cow. Are we to believe that Mr. Doheny is not close to Fat Cats on Wall Street, or financial insiders down there? Give me a break. Most of his money comes from outside this district, or from people who can't even vote for him ... so, whose interests does he intend to serve? What he is screeching about is a dead horse, yet he wants to ride it for all it’s worth – and I guess he and his camp intends to do just that. I say stop this now, and swear on a Bible you never will please or appease any lobbyist. Raise your right hand and repeat after me – what cat got your tongue. Whoops.

To the voters who get all upset about these things from either side, I say this. We all know the rabid partisan games in this silly season, but there is one single principle you should follow and it’s dirt simple: Insist that the candidate and/or incumbent does not take money from outsiders, or from those who cannot vote for them, and certainly from any not even in the district or NYS.

If the donors want a favor or buy an office holder, then let them buy one from a candidate/or incumbent in their own state or district. If a candidate or incumbent can't do that and run or expect to win, the I say, don't run. Sounds simple, right? Ladies and gentlemen, it is that simple. Or, is it just the money? If you answer yes it is, then you have discovered the root of the problems we face. Congrats.

Finally, voters continue to harp about candidates having no principles or core values, yet they look the other way and vote for those who have principles or core values. We can't have it both ways, folks. But, we sure try, don't we? Mirror time.

Danny your spin and smoke screen is useless. You are the problem. You who represents free stuff. I don't care about any lobbyist because no matter how much money you raise from them to spend on advertising, you cannot convince me to vote for the likes of you or Obama or Nancy Pelosi or Bill Owens.

Your lies about Wall Street and Doheny would not matter if they were true because Wall Street and I both have the same interest at heart. Less free stuff and less of you and your totalitarian regulations telling us what to do in our lives.

Look at your dumb party and the dumb finance reform law they passed and yet all week the market dropped and Morgan lost two billion. By gambling in credit derivatives! Howz that reform working for ya?

Of course that is pennies compared to how much money bill Owens has/will cost us with his first vote in congress for nancycare. And the crooked things Wall street does pales in comparison to the crooked things Nancycare and the president do with our treasury.

But the difference is that none of us has to be invested in the stock market but we are all forced to be invested in our government and monetary system.

re: "How was on line poker going to bring jobs to NNY?"

It isn't & it is rather obvious there is no intent to "bring jobs to NNY".

The entire objective is to create another source of taxable revenue.

If the Mafia were involved it would be called organized crime.

I am sitting in my congressional office and get a call. Not from a voter or business in my district but from a lobbying firm. Thye are offer a first class junket that would cost me $22,000+.

What is the first thing that I think to ask.

A. Is this legal and ethical?
or
B. Can I bring my wife?

If they didn't have to bring Nancie's desk along, it would have saved mucho fuelo. That would have made for much less of a carbon footprint. Call me an environmentalist. I simply care.
