Council to State: Have You Considered the Private Sector ?

City Council approved a zoning change on Washington Street to allow a fine local buisnessperson to actually use her property for something.
Council also deferred on leasing City parking space to the State for use by workers while the SOB garage is closed for repairs.
At my urging, Council urged the State to approach nearby lot owners including the Medical Arts Building and Masonic Temple to see if they want to rent space. They are closer and why not help the private sector.
Besides, State workers and anyone else can park where they want anyway...
Lawmakers also approved a contract with City firefighters.

It is unbecoming for you to thumb your nose at the SOB. Maybe the state should close it down and have Lunco build a new one up on the hill outside of the city.

also...why don't you approach the private sector and hand it to the SOB on a silver platter? You are lucky to have the State Office building and the useless jobs that are in it, dumping money into the city like a little Fort Drum. Just because they are too dumb or unmotivated to handle the parking doesn't mean you should shrug your shoulders and toss the softball back in their court. Handle it for them!

That zoning change is a sticky thing.
First let me say the whole street should be zoned commercial. And the Planning board is a bunch of jerks that want to tell people what to do for the sake of the power trip.

But now you have made it legal to build a Walgreens on that lot. Which would be a great thing but is not what those who run the city (into the ground) want. If you wanted to achieve your goal then perhaps a new zone classification was in order. Or a ZBA approval for a nonconforming use.

I know...I know...the planning board would rather see a pizza hut and mustard seed closed or a puffs torn down every time a new business opens on Washington street.
