A new work day starts at City Hall and a new city manager is on duty following the retirement yesterday of Mary Corriveau and at midnight the "football" became the responsibility of interim manager John Krol.
Mr. Krol will be at City Hall this morning and I will be introducing him to department heads at 10 AM. After that he will dive in to the duties as he did for many years when working in the same job in Ogdensburg.
The City's 300+ full and part time employees led by their department heads will continue to do the job and City Council will continue to recruit a permanent replacement.
Best wishes to Mrs Corriveau in her new endeavors and we look forward to the professional job Mr. Krol will do in the weeks ahead.

Mayor are just as responsible for this as the 3 that voted in favor. You knew it was going to happen three months before it actually took place and you sat idle. You never raised the issue publicly until the vote was taken. You passively supported this and you are fooling no one hiding behind a no vote..
After reading about what a great job Mary Corriveau did, the standing ovation etc....I have ask: "Why was she fired?"
Even though Mary was doing a good job, a new set of competent eyes should be able to walk in and see things that can be improved. Hopefully you can list off a few problems and solutions he spots in his first days in the job.
It would be a great if he were an ax-man and went through the city kicking a$$ and taking names. Reorganizing and right-sizing the whole operation. Implementing new processes and getting rid of outdated ones that were inefficient or did not work along with checks and balances.Calling managers on the carpet that were under performing or blatantly incompetent and starting the termination or demotion process for the latter.
Hey you sound like you are down sir. You didn't vote for her to leave, just remember that.
What no snarky comment on her getting a tax free early retirement tax free! a little constancy mayor would be nice.
Next off the to the big payoff- part a make work job for another governmental position.
As bad as this all sounds, It's still A LOT better than the hachet job that was done in The Burg!!
9:16 ; the city council should be the first in line. You know, the ones; its for the betterment of the city, I never said that,I was scared of the City police. No-one, no-one, is above the law, except maybe the city council.
Not really handing off the football,in Watertown more like the wiffle ball..
