More intrigue in the lawsuit that has captivated the water cooler crowd as the lawyer for the topless deputy sheriff says she was threatnened in an effort to quash the $50M action.
This episode of As The Cops Turn has everybody talking and lots of back channel stories coming to the fore. The letter complaining of the alleged harassment comes from attorney Charu Narang. Ms. Narang says she is also a military dependent, like that makes the threat somehow different.
Ms Narang says a man claiming to be in the Sheriff's Department threatened to make her life difficult if she didn't drop the suit.
My read is it happened, but the lily is being gilded a bit to get to $50M in proposed damages.

Normally people would not lie about this kind of thing. Unless it was the type to sue for 50 million dollars. A suit that large for just about anything is immoral, even if it is just a starting point to extort a settlement.
Agreed it probably happened,but who made the call is the question.The Sheriffs office already has a huge black eye from the revelations,and the lawsuit ain't going away from anonymous threats.I doubt they are to blame,probably someone stirring the pot for their own perverse ends..
That is just plain stupid:
calling the victim and then threatening her over phone. Real smart, I hope who ever made that call does serious time. The City is being sued for million, it had to be some crazy lunatic and when they are caught I hope jail time follows.

IF the police wish to solve this, they can. All phone threats can be traced by cell phone records. If they don't solve it, it either didn't happen or the police have decided to look the other way.

The attorney for officer Rice, Ms. Narang, is an officer of the court, and thus stands on solid legal ground. I assume you think our legal system is on solid legal ground, and thus threats of this sort from any source is a crime.
You as a key city official of this city should back off and allow this case to play out and not comment the way you are at this forum. That is unless of course you are worried about what money, if any, that the City might have to pitch in as part of future county settlement, which if correct, I hope Officer Rice wins.

No Danny free stuff, our legal system is not on solid ground. It is built on the disgusting quicksand of utopian liberal thinking. The fact that the tax payer could be on the hook for these accusations is disgusting. Unless it could be shown that the taxpayers did not use reasonable care in hiring and promoting these accused employees then it should be the employees and the employees alone that should pay. A legal system that says otherwise is a disgusting perversion of law.
An attorney that would file a suit for such a high number is disgusting in her own right.

No one ever said what allegedly happened was okay. What was said is that even if it did happen, (and we don't know if it did), it is not worth 50 million dollars and the tax payers do not deserve to have to pay for it. It is immoral to write that high of an amount in the lawsuit.
