Albany rushes to decide if Empire Zone offenders should have their millions in tax breaks restored | syracuse.com

Nobody likes to lose their free stuff....their white collar food stamps...
Consideration is being given to restoring tax breaks to a range of lawyers, accountants and other saavy folks who basicly just formed a new entity and applied for Empire Zone benefits.  There was a fuss and the benefits to the politically connected firms were taken away..
One thing about being connected is you don't take no for an answer. Albany is rushing to give the benefits back.

Lies lies and more lies.
First off, it is the courts that are telling the state that the state is the offender. So now the state has a chance to quit fighting and losing or continue fighting and losing. maybe some punitive damages should be awarded now that several rulings clearly show the former attorney general turned governor is on the wrong side?

The loophole allowing corporate reorganization games was closed over a decade ago. Back when it was still called the EDZ. That means any business accused of that is not as guilty as people would have us think.

The zone is intended to encourage ANYONE to invest in the zone, not just new businesses. That is nothing like food stamps or welfare because it requires the receiving party to actually do something. Something the lawmakers agreed upon and enacted into law. Trying to un-ring the bell is unconstitutional. If you want it to quit ringing the bell from now on then that is another matter.
