WDT: Scribes Best Stay Off the Ice

The high command at the Times has been known to throw some elbows under the basket, but apparently their sensitivities are challenged by some Indians fighting during a hockey game.
The WDT opines that the City should not seek the Privateers moving to the Fairgrounds because of a fight at a weekend hockey game in Alexandria Bay.
Granted the fracas is not what you want happening and if the team from Akwasasne cannot behave, they should be dealt with.
Hockey is an edgy sport, but its exciting and enjoyed by many in this area. The possibility of a team makes improvements to the arena more plausible and increases the recreational activities available to all.
     Times....lighten up.

More Alice in Wonderland logic from an organization that supports all manner of government violence.

There may be a fights associated with hockey games - bad, bad, bad.

The POTUS can order people murdered, tortured, kidnapped, disappeared - good, good, good.

Come on WDT...really? Look around you and see if your editorial page really could support an eight inch piece about a fight in a hockey game. Are you afraid that the violence seen on the east end of State Street will gravitate to the west end? Have a look at the police records for a couple of bars up by the park entrance...now, are you sure you want Ft. Drum so close to your city? You folks at the WDT once again have your head out of sight and your editorial reflects the sun also not shining on your editorial writers. The possible migration of the Privateers to your arena in Watertown is such a no-brainer...everyone wins...the City, the merchants, the hotels/motels...and even the WDT with the spill-over advertising that the hockey club will generate. To lose this opportunity would be to lose a fininancial windfall for a whole bunch of folks. I suggest that the WDT people stick to something that they know about...poking sleeping dogs.

Times isn't concerned with bar fights when their friends own the bar.

Keep in mind the WDT editorial appeared before Major General visited City Hall today and expressed his fondness for hockey. Oops.

I thought hockey & fights went hand in hand. No major biggie.

Jeff,
There was considerable disagreement over this inside the walls. Overall consensus afterwards was that we went to hard on it. There is no doubt the extreme focus on fighting is no good, bad for the league and bad for business. Some fighting is what makes hockey a spectacular spectator sport.

We should have pulled our punches and taken a more moderate middle road.

At least you considered both sides of the story. That's more than you ever do with your reports about education and school financing.

And you went "too" hard on it JB.
