Bonnie Castle Resort was once the premier spot in Alexandria Bay, but it is tired and behind in its taxes.....Talk of a "racino" aside, the facilities are fading and talk of new owners just confirms what was already known....
I don't buy the argument that gambling somehow changes the metrics of tourism in this area....The trouble with casinos is there is no middle ground...Only big operations will get approved and gambling as the centerpiece of tourism won't work here. It's too prevalent elsewhere.
Watertown Daily Times Pending sale of Bonnie Castle Resort should not affect proposed racino project in Alex Bay

Racino? Probably ain't gonna happen. The local stuffed shirt money and white wine crowd has already weighed in....quietly, but decisively, with their pal- pols. They've made their position very clear.
It certainly isn't consistent with their lifestyle at he Opera Hou$e, TI Club golf cour$e, the Clipper, TILT, Save the River and the private Boat Mu$eum Clubhou$e is it? They like things just the way they are----why promote things that will attract "others" who do not share their largesse? Ugh. Bad enough Clayton and ABay have those wretched Dollar Stores. Awful Awful. The great unwashed---drats!

Now there is some evidence of how stupid the libruls are that think they are smart because they memorized the questions and answers to the crossword puzzles. How did those Dollar Generals get built so ugly? They roll up their sleeves with patches on the elbows and fight windmills tooth and nail. But they could not be bothered to show up at one planning board meeting and suggest a little decor on those steel building boxes and insist on a sign that doesn't look like it was bought from Sam's club.
Hey. They know what's best for the rest of us. Just ask 'em. They like things just the way they are.....you know, quiet, noncommercial and artsy. They've made their bucks and come here to "slum" with us while they cringe at the thought of actually staying when the temp is forecast to go below 70. We serve them well! Sure they wear jeans, but not Wranglers. Their's are from Brooks Brothers and J. Crew. PBR? No. Utica Club? Pinot Noir? Yup. They hire us as their caretakers while they want to take care that we don't get our share of the pie. They know what's best for their summer playground. Selfish, oh yeah. Phony? Oh Oh Oh Yeah!
