Krol Proposal Sent to Council

Today I sent out the proposal from former Maple City Manager John Krol for helping facilitate the city manager search for Watertown. Council members received their packet on the issue today.
Since the Times and others have suggested I lead on the matter, I am.....This is my approach...Affordable, local, professional, and immune to individual agendas.
The proposal from Mr. Krol will be on the City website tomorrow.

Ya gotta do something and this sounds as good as any other ideas.
But I don't know how immune this guy is to individual agendas, since he was the darling of the Johnsons way back when (why I cannot figure out).

You wanting to pay out 10 grand to search for a city manager is moronic. That is the dumbest thing I have read all week. All the Watertown city council does is waste money. Its the only thing you guys are good at besides getting drunk.

We need a regime change in Watertown starting with the top. No 10 grand kickback schemes needed.

The above poster has it right. In related news, the city council has hired a consultant to tie their shoes. WTF.

This falls in line with all those feasability studies!! And Ogdensburg is such a model city to model after.

Is this the guy that hired the last Ogdensburg city manager that they just ran out of town?

Actually no. Krol told Council he never met Art Sciorra and had nothing to do with his hiring.
Mr Sciorra was hired using a headhunter.

He offers to do it for 10k?
I bet you could talk him down to $7500

How much does it costs for an employment agency to find a replacement?

professionally speaking i feel it is an obvious shortcoming in ANY professional organization fails to organize and conduct its OWN search Committee

Any organization who claims to employee VERY QUALIFIED people HAS the talent in the barn to develop a darned job description , write a series of job ads , place them in appropriate journals , screen the candidates and conduct final interviews . IF YOU CANT do that you should NEITHER be working for the organization NOR part of its governance team .

That said i have participated in numerous search committees and hired several CEO's over 4 decades and they all succeeded .

That said i find it amusing and disturbing whenever so called leaders say "We can't do it , We don't know what we want , we could never screen applicants" or "We can't write a job description "

LEAD ---USE YOUR professional staff to also serve on any search committee .

You can do it, BUT you want to abrogate your responsibility as leaders and bring in a hired gun to take your temperature and do what you could and should do .

Consultants have NO special pixie dust -- ask Nelson they spent 50 K and it was a disaster !

10:56 is a blow hard wannabe.
This is no different than purchasing the services for anything else you don't have the time, skills, inclination or all three to do.
Graham could cook his own dinner too but he goes to Pete's instead. They do it better and cheaper and he doesn't want to take the time to do it or learn to do it better or cheaper.
