Maybe he will take a tougher stand on criminal rights issues after being robbed this week at the point of a machete. Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed of a thousand dollars at his vacation home in the West Indies. The 73 year old jurist was not injured in the incident.

Don't we have Machete Control in DC? Shouldn't you have to wait five days before you obtain a machete? Now if you're a swinging at Supreme Court Justice, is that a hate crime. It would have been if it was Justice Thomas. Or one of them softball players. What would be helpful is if we had a balistic fingerprint for that machete and machete registration. You have to be licensed to drive a car. Why not be licensed to play with a machete?
In a related story, an 88 year old retired policeman in the UK observed a robbery of an armored car taking place. He intervened with the only weapon he is allowed to own, his cane, and chased off the robbers. Word has it he has been arrested for assault. Seems he was not personally attacked, thus has no basis to claim self defense. The money being stolen was not his own, so he cannot state that he was defending his property. Chuck Schumer would be proud. Their system works. I mean, do you really NEED a cane? Then again we could have cane registration and background checks.
