Governor Cuomo and the union representing teachers have a deal on teacher evaluations. They say it will make kids smarter. Time will tell.

As long as the money will flow to the teachers, all is well. I'm sure it is a watered down, fake, make believe system that will serve no one but NYSUT. And the child screwing will continue. Make those reservations for the Bahamas.

New York a national leader?

Now THAT'S a knee-slapper!

Everyone needs to realize their jobs in it all. Governor Cuomo's job is to make the state's budget work. The teacher's union is in place to help the teachers with their everyday rights. To keep them working at a rate that everyone can deal with. The teachers are in schools to teach. To first make sure kids learn, then to collect a check. The kids are in schools to learn and one day become a part of the state. To get their place. Evaluations are not needed. Everyone needs to realize their job titles and start doing them.

Evaluations are definitely needed! Simply expecting people to do the job they were hired to do does not work. Just like any profession, some put the paycheck ahead of the task they are hired to perform, teachers are not immune to this.

I am evaluated in my work as most everyone else is, it's not too much to ask that the biggest burden there is on taxpayers be held to a standard as well.

Dear Anonymous 7:27,
Teachers are already evaluated and observed by Management on an annual basis and even written-up if necessary for poor performance. It's not like evaluations are suddenly something new. And new teachers are evaluated even more.

2:03 don't try to confuse them with facts. But you forgot to mention that unlike all the other government jobs, teachers can be easily fired for the first three years.

Any casual observer can see that the pool of teachers is currently competent and we should be concentrating on other problems with education.

This appears to be a good policy approach to a long overdue problem.

WHAT "appears to be a good policy approach to a long overdue" blah blah blah Dan? This has been nothing but a baloney show. There are no specifics, except the money still flows to the teachers. No surprise there. And no surprise that you would support it. As there's nothing there.
