Everything These Days is Three to Two

City Council voted three to two  to approve a contract with former Ogdensburg manager John Krol to conduct a recruitment process for city manager of Watertown.
The $10,000 fee is less than what the city paid last year for an audit of the Parks and Recreation and its one-eighth of what was spend on an early retirement plan for City Manager Jerry Hiller when he was forced out in 2002-3.
Mr. Krol is local, respected and will advise the Council on the hiring of a manager. He will also allow Council to focus on its core duties while seeking a replacement to City Manager Mary M Corriveau who is retiring.
Council also tonight gave a thumbs up to an alcohol policy on city property and approved the salary for newly hired Water Czar Michael Sligar.
Lawmakers also reviewed goals and objectives for 2012 which include on-line bill paying and successfully hiring a new city manager.

Let me guess, it was the Bobsie twins who voted no. Smith and Butler are the Great White Hopes of who ? The Times ?

great payday for a consultant who says he doesn't know how to write a job description for a city manager.

Does Smith realize he lost the election for Mayor? That means he does not have public support for his whacked out ideas.

If anyone needs brain surgery, it is him and it would be exploratory.

Government at the local level, much like the national and state levels is now as factionalized and contentious and "full of sound and fury signifying Nothing"-- akin to Theatre of the Absurd !

There is no trust , there is no unifying accord and the raucous often comedic circus is largely ignored or rendered futile by many .

Until we have a total accord on WHAT exactly SHOULD the role of government BE including term limits and part time elected PUBLIC SERVANTS - the divide among the have and the have-nots and the Almost haves will continue to play-out and things will probably get worse

8:57, the only comedic circus is your postings. What the hell does the haves and have-mores have to do with this? (There is no such thing as a have not in this country...only makers and takers.)

Jeff, congratulations on making a practical decision and getting the majority to agree, so you can move on and hire another manger who is no better than the last, but certainly better than a professional headhunter would send our way.

857 is right of course, and very few readers will see the post for what it's worth, because the bright ones don't play in this sandbox.

Here's my take and then I want to leave it cold.
Jeff Smith is not a bad dude in anyway. People gave him a job to do as he sees fit. That's the nature of the beast. So if he didn't agree, he didn't agree.
Joe Butler is in the same boat. He has his ideas and has the right to vote as he sees fit also.
Same with Ms. Burns.
Same with the rest of the crew. If some of you don't want them to make these votes you need to be at the meetings and take the floor in support of your needs. I feel it's so easy to step into these people's shoes, without really being in their shoes. Hell Iv'e been guilty of spewing out crap on these people. It isn't right in the long run. I really don't know any of them mean harm to the city. It's time to pull back and let everyone have a say and try to make it all work. That would be the smart road to jump on.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.....

I see 8:57's post as the worthless irrelevant, off topic post that it is. So counting the mayor, there is at least one bright one in this sandbox...and one lucky one, since I am spot on.

5:22 you are only blinded by your prejudice and intellectual limitation.

Politics in this country is so toxic that we have lost our way and adrift in contentious drivel that neither lifts the spirit or the economy .

Open your eyes and think for a change

FYI: My wife pays our National Grid and Watertown City Water/Sewer bills via our Credit Union account and their "Web Bill Pay" option that they offer members ... nothing to do with the city or state (National Grid).

She sets it up, and they send the payment electronically to the source.

If the issue is use of credit card, then direct webbill pay is the solution... the city would have to authorize that - but I see not problems in the regard: Paypal is a good source in that regard (which credit card based).

What is so hard about that concept?

Dan, I'm surprised you have to pay your National Grid bill. Isn't there some kind of program you can get on, maybe for having to live near a golf course, that will help you pay your bills? Maybe next term. You're entitled. The least they can do is cut you a break. You always seem to be asking for one.

I do feel at this point that all the second quessing and fighting doesn't do a lick of good. If you do, I'm okay with it. The team needs to get back together and start working. Spring is on the way. People need permits in hand for summer shows and the such. Time to get the band back together. Were on a misson from God.

Just joshing you Ray,unfortunately people seem to hate each other from world wars to religion, politics, and everything else right down to blogs..sorry that I can't feel hopeful things will change, but as you say spring is coming..it did feel good to sing Kumbayah though..
