City Council heard the nuances of the property tax cap and with the exemptions offered in the computation of the City's 2% cap... the City really can increase the tax levy 6.16% without passing a politically unpopular override.
There are various factors including escalating pension contributions that are factored in to the cap. When you do all the ciphering, the City's levy can rise three times the advertised amount and still be within the statutory cap.
What a great state !

Why is anyone surprised. We heard just the other day that the stimulus package worked beautifully. Why shouldn't 2% equal 6.16%? Just learn to think, and lie, like a progressive.
Tell Ted Ford, or next time theres a party tell the Elected officials like PattyPlate,AJR, and BlankenBush.
And a 2 billion collar tax increase is a tax cut.
I refer all of you to the preceding blog about Carl Palidino's assesment of King Andy.
Clearly the State is in a state of denial.
A bit of advice my grand daddy gave me, when I long ago set upon his knee, comes to mind….“Figures don’t lie but liars figure.”
Wow; it looks like Alexandria was the farthest over. What's with those NNYorkers up there?? Don't their calculators work or is it the operator... Someone needs to right that ship!!
I would rather pay a 10% increase in Alexandria than a 2% increase in Watertown.
We had to pay for Sampie's gas.
