Voting has yet to happen this year and the political class is looking ahead to next year with the GOP trying to find someone to run against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who last year won the right to fill out the final two years of Hillary Clinton's term.
2010 comptroller candidate Harry Wilson is being mentioned. He almost won a statewide race against Tom DiNapoli.
Senator Gillibrand is the former Albany area Member of Congress picked from relative obscurity to fill the vacant seat.
Since then she has become a formidable political force and GOP prospects for beating her are long, but not competing seriously for the seat could affect other Republican candidates down ballot.
Its tough to find someone credible to stand in front of the train for love of party.

I recall that when she was running for congress she said that she learned politics at her grandmother's knee. Her grandmother was part of the corrupt O'Connell machine in Albany County. One that rivaled the worst in American history. She was pro-second amendment until she let Schumer tell her what to say.
8:03,
You are absolutely right. When first appointed everyone had thought we at least had someone who had half a brain because of her voting record. Time has proven she's just another political hoe who leans in whatever direction the political winds blows. One wonders just what ole Goomer has on her that makes her so completely subservient to him...............................
Gillibrand needs to be replaced, and not for a big raiser (or supporter of big money interests -both good reasons), but because she is ineffective. She a show off who only picks and chooses soft issues to gain support and stay in office; and yes, that's called politics.
Nevertheless, she is ineffective on tough issues and seldom speaks out on the hard calls. A senator should be outspoken, vocal, and always on the move to work problems, and not be a showman and hog for the mic and cameras for show only ... they have power, but most of them, like she, use it wrong way, in my view.
She needs to lose, but the GOP has this nasty habit of putting forth weak, rich candidates who always lose and seem to lose by big numbers. Most are worse than she.
What a choice in end: weak and weaker.
I agree, but, what would Schumer do without two votes?
And leave it to Dannie to call the Republican the weaker of the two. He has to say that, as he's incapable of independent thought. By the way, Dannie, I'd counter your letter to the editor the other day but you made no points. There was nothing to debate. Same ol' partisan baloney.
How could we do worse than Gillibrund? She has no standards whatsoever, says just what she is told to say, and has only one accomplishment to her credit, losing weight.
