Yeah...I Went to Meet Occupy Watertown...You Got a Problem With That ?

Conventional political wisdom is when the "occupy Watertown" crowd comes to Public Square....stay away...no photos....it may offend the establishment...
That's not part of my DNA...
I want to experience other viewpoints...I want to talk to Planned Parenthood and the RTL crowd....I believe in private sector capitalism, but I understand there's a rage against money.
Sometimes I get in trouble listening to other viewpoints or associating with those who have views not suited for noon Rotary....
But , I have found there's a diverse community...and while my policies reflect my ideology, I am not dismissive of other views....
That's why I was glad to be the only local pol to visit 'occupy Watertown."   And I don't apologize for doing it.

Good for you Mayor, I am glad to see person of politics, who does not concern himself,of what others think/do; and likes to view both sides of the fence. You are truly, a rare breed.

I don't have a problem with it...as long as you were just going to make fun of them.

Did you invite them over to Fort Pearl for a free beer? FreeStuff does seem to be what they're interested in. They be Obama's little sheep. Cool people.

Why make fun? They are people who for one day (or more) that believe in something. They don't always know what.....But they believe. Special quote from the X-files...

I want to believe....

Believe this, Ray. I like you. Just like them occupiers, I sometimes have no idea what the heck you're saying, but I think you're the greatest. You and Idi Amin Dada. Top two right now. I believe in YOU.

When I see them it really reminds me of your countrys day in the 60s.

Only without the cool love ins, love beads, and the cool hippys.

The 70s were better.

Mayor you are on target !!,

If ONLY folks would engage our brains before running off at the mouth by Listening to ALL views respectfully , making discerning opinions only AFTER gathering facts and asking penetrating questions.

Good on ya, Mayor Jeff !!

I’ve always considered tolerance, or the willingness to listen to different points of views a virtue as it promotes pluralism and civic responsibility.

In fact, Thomas Jefferson incorporated theories of tolerance within the Constitution.

The virtue of tolerance and genuine respect for differences in people are fundamental to democratic stability and is the true test of a free and democratic society.

Tolerance is overrated.
Half our problems are caused because we have been too tolerant of these snot nose gimme gimme types.
You have better odds of finding gold on the beach at Wescott than of finding a valuable nugget of an idea from these protesters.

Now, now...you shouldn't be talking about the Wall Street bankers that way.

Good for you Mr. Mayor. It really is part of your job, regardless of what your personal veiws may be.

Besides, the more coverage these people get, the more everyone realizes what a bunch of losers they are. Just like their Hippie parents and greandparents were back then.

Funny thing is, 2:19PM thinks “these people” are all “hippies.”

Of course, if he spent more time actually educating himself instead of repeating Faux News talking points, he might realize how stupid he comes off with that statement.

It sounds as though he’s done more drugs than all of the “hippies” have done for the past 50 years.

First off, I didn't say these people are all hippies. I said their parents and grandparents were hippies. I am of the hippie generation and a good share of my classmates were hippies, so I have first hand experience with them. The biggest reason they were hippies was because they were too damned lazy to work and thought they outta get everything for free. Seems to me that's pretty much what the "ocupyers" want, too. And just for your information, I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't do drugs. Never have. I've been too busy WORKING for a living instead of whinig about somebody else's hard work and good fortune.
