Rift Camp Hosts Pow Wow on Air Service

Assemblywoman Addie Russell's adhoc group on US/Canada relations met today at the Rift Camp on Wellesley Island and took a detour into a discussion about how to make the debut of American Eagle Airlines in Watertown later this year a success.
American is to offer jet service to Chicago and is the latest in a string of carriets to operate under the essential air service program.
County officials are hoping the new carrier will do what others did not and are teaming with the Chamber of Commerce to market the kickoff.
I met the nice lady who runs the Airport since the County takeover....
The company and dinner were nice at the Rift Camp and thanks to Howard Kelly for organizing it. Every county resident should get at least one meal at the scenic site.

I go by there a dozen times a month. It is a nice place. Too bad it's reserved for government types. It has a NO TRESSPASSING sign on the dock, so I'm guessin' mere citizens would never be welcome.

10:59 you're right it's owned by the taxpayers yet the signs are up, on the down side it's pretty old and outdated, wonder where the sewer goes? Should be sold and back on the tax map.

No, the turds go right into the River, just like Cape Rochester. But there's a current there too, so never you mind. As I can see it serves mostly as a private party spot for the politically connected. Hey, they need to relax too. Kissin' ass can be very tiring.

Who is the "nice lady who runs the airport"? Jim Lawrence, the Highway Superintendent, runs the airport.

The "Rift Camp" is NOT owned by the taxpayers, it is owned by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority, a private authority that is only overseen and regulated by NYS. The taxpayers have no right on private property unless invited. You don't own the bridge either...as a matter of fact.

Who owns the Thousand Island Bridge Authority? Do these people answer to us? I though WE were the public. Either way I'm glad they have a private place to party with their government employee friends. Oh to be in that class of people. Some folks can only dream. There was a poll recently about what is worth more, a government job or a degree from Harvard. Guess which won. A Harvard degree doesn't give you the right to party at the Rift Camp. They don't allow "rift raff".

So who created the Authority? Remember the promise made when the bridge was built? When its paid for it will be FREE, Sell the Rift Camp, put it back on the tax rolls. Authorities are created to do an end around to spending.
