Here's a study done by the anti alcohol crowd that shows what a total failure the 21 year old drinking age has been...86% of high school seniors have drank and 58% do so regularly in NNY schools...The numbers are high even in the eighth grade...
The conclusion...drinking is more socially acceptable....You wouldn't think so with all the preaching about it and the convenience store stings that puts some 60 year old clerk out of a job while the business of drinking goes unabated.
Of course a cynic could argue these studies present a worse case scenario as a rationale for funding the groups doing the studies...That's what a cynic could think.
The Journal Research Finds Younger Kids Drinking

I can't see how this is true. We have laws that cover this. You must be mistaken. It is against the law for people under 21 to be drinking. Has been for years.
Just like the anti smoking laws, they provide jobs for a few vocal advocates. It would be nice if it worked. It doesn't seem to.
We need to raise the taxes on brew just like on cigarettes. Until we get people buying beer via mail order or trips to the reservation or having a friend mail it from down south, then it is safe to say the taxes are too low. It's for the children.
now how about a report on sex education
Jeff, your cynacism is more than likely well founded. However, back in the 60's, 12, 13, and 14 yr. olds were drinking any chance they could get, too. Most of em doing it just to get something over on the Old Man or to be cool with the in crowd, with a few perpetual losers drinking and stoning themselves into oblivion, same as today. The laws didn't stop it then, ain't gonna stop it now.
The key qualifier was the "any chance they could get". Back in the 60's, parents used to parent. And kids didn't have unlimited spending money and 18 years old did not feel kinship with 12, 13 and 14 yr. olds, since they were not in the same group known as minors like they are now.
Those 60's drunks, stoners and hippies were the parents of the parents of todays drunks, stoners and losers. Parenting is a lost art for the most part. look at how kids act in public today. And the small percentage of parents today who still do care about how their kids act are scared to death of doing anything to their kids in public that might remotely seem like disipline for fear of being charged with child abuse. I was at a store the other day and a woman slapped her kids' hand for continually trying to add stuff to the cart he wasn't supposed to and the next woman in line was flappin her trap about how that woman was abusing her kid and she ought to be arrested. Ron White is right. "You can't fix stupid."
