The GOP's new leading man and woman were in Waterloo, IA last night for a dinner and their fight for the Presidential nomination looks like it will surely energize the base of the party.
Meanwhile President Obama is off on a Midwest bus tour dubbed by critics, the "Magical Misery Tour."
Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann are thought to be fighting it out for Tea Party and social conservative allegiances, while one wonders if nominal front runner Mitt Romney can keep his lead in place.
Governor Perry is especially vexing for Romney as he is the nation's longest serving governor from the second largest state. He also is thought to have prodigious fundraising abilities as had Ms. Bachmann.
This should be a great race.

They don't usually have trouble exciting their base, it is the rest of us that they have trouble bringing along. In fact, they lost the last election when they ran a VP designed to excite their base instead of going toward the center, after winning the nomination.
The last Republican Presidential primaries were a good race. Right up until the moment they chose Loophole McPain. Cost em the election, too. If the Great Comprimiser Replifools choose Romney we'll probably lose this upcoming election, also. Yes, I'm a life-long Republican, and yes, I consider the Repulican Party's choice of Fed. and State candidates over the last 30 years to be so-so at best and abysmal at worst. This time around it looks like the Party may possibly have learned it's lesson. At least we have a candidate or two who are acting sort of Reganeqse. Time will tell.
Sorry 9:47 but I don't belive you. I don't belive you would have stayed home or voted for Obama or voted a protest vote. You voted for loophole last time...just admit it.
So the reason he lost was the swing voters that voted for Obama and hated Palin. Many against her for invalid reasons thanks to the MSN and SNL and many for valid reasons.
"...At least we have a candidate or two who are acting sort of Reganeqse(sic) Time will tell....." Don't make me laugh. By today's standards Reagan would be much too 'librul' for today's Rushannity inspired interlopers. And I too am a life long Republican.
7;15,
You are correct. I did vote for McPain. Simply because I'd done my homework before the election and figured out that Obama would have been a lot worse. I didn't vote for Goerge H.W. the second time around. Niether did a lot of other Republicans and we got 8 years of Bill Clinton. Lesson learned. As much as I dislike John McCain, I still beleive he would have made a better President than what we have now. Not good by any means, mind you, but better. Sometimes that's all we can hope for. You may be right about the swing voters, but I do know several stalwart Republicans who did stay home and not vote at all. If it happened in my area, it happens around the rest of the country too. Believe me, my friend, if there had been any alternative to Loony-Tunes McPain who had a realistic chance of winning the Presidency, I would have voted for that individual. We did have a decent man running for President, former represenative Bob Barr from Georgia on the Libertarian ticket. But he had no chance of winning. When it came to Rick Lazio, I did withold my vote, and witheld it gladly.
8:20,
In the case of a couple of the current candidates, I don't disagree with you.
