Ritchie Wonders If Amish Should Get a Pass on Tax Filings

So Amish people are complaining about the State's ominous letters about filing their taxes electronically. Seems they don't have computers.
The State of NY is in a big push to halt business owners from filing sales tax by mail, but its an interesting point on whether a lifestyle sans computers should exempt you from the new way of doing things.

NYS is such an ass. Too bad the Amish aren't part of some protected class. If they were a black or Native American group the state wouldn't dare mess with them.

land of the free, as long as you do it "their" way...

the entire history of the world revolves around getting cultures to conform.

as in the Middle East

Since the Amish wear beards & funny hats no one will care when The State uses The PATRIOT Act to disrupt this dangerous influnce in our midst.

Imagine the nerve of these people! Insisting on living outside the loving clutches of Leviathan. Do they dare believe they are free men or some other strangeness?

If they dont why should any of us???

Their religious beliefs require them to abstain from many of the technological tools we desire in our lives. There is no reason why we cannot respect that. Then again respecting religion isn't in fashion right now. Fashion is everything.

How can the government assume that everyone owns or uses a computer! They should accept a bag of pennies hand delivered! If a power failure occurs will exemptions be given? The Amish are lovin' it!

With all due respect to the Amish. They seem to be able to go into town on any given day. Go to all the stores where the evil tech. is used all over the place. They have no problem. They buy and buy. Which is great. So as a result they should be able to walk into a tax business and do their taxs just like the rest of us.

So 10:22, are you suggesting that they not be allowed to leave their farms? There is a difference between interacting with our markets and filing computer reports.

NOOOOOO! READ! They could go to a person who does tax work on a computer and have it done for them. They can deal with some one using a computer to bill their food out,,,they can deal with the rest.
