The fight continues in Cape Vincent with the Town Board passing a law requiring the presentation of a driver's license with a Cape address be presented in order to vote. The reason is the apparent effort to fluff up the voter rolls with seasonal residents opposed to wind development.
Such a law will not stand as its contrary to state law and a town board cannot impose such restrictions. It is interesting to follow the Cape, where wind has created real interest in local government and most of the rest of the county, where there are no contests.
Jefferson's Leaning Left: Town of Cape Vincent sets law that will require that you must show a drivers license with a Cape Vincent address before you can vote on election day.

What lunacy! And Mason is running on the Conservative line. What idiot allowed this to happen. To give an idea how well thought out this is, how enraged do you think the summer residents will be. It is reported that 200 have registered to vote during the current drive. This may push it to 2000. Be careful what you ask for!
But it's magic "GREEN" energy.
Sounds familiar...
Hey, let's put tiny windmills on every parking meter, solar cells on our hats, and micro-hydros in our downspouts!
Those millons of dollars look real good. Hell for millons of dollars most people would sell their Mom to the Canadians.
Yes, I would think the biggest weapon in the arsenal of the anti-wind is the ignorance of pro-wind moves such as these.
Even Don Mason, who proposed the last-minute, blindsiding resolution said he wasn't sure whether it was legal or not.
Wow.
And then you have the obvious result of just ticking off the seasonal voters - many who many now decide to register when they were on the fence before. Not very smart.
This was nothing more than an expression of contempt toward the seasonal residents.
I have no problem with it at all. Why is it the left is always the one defending methods of voter fraud? Happens all over. Why shouldn't you be a resident of where you are voting? Let's hear your BS defense of this.
It has been very difficult to expose the industrial wind corruption stories in Cape Vincent, NY.
What happened last night has been the way it has been going for five years now in Cape Vincent. Violations of open meetings law such as A former Supervisor trying to have a guy arrested for doing a Town Meeting video and numerous other problems exist.
Town board members with conflicts of interest are being paid by wind developers and have controlled every vote and in a wind town, every vote is about wind. We do not have local rule. We have wind developer rule on all siting issues.
The wind developer even got the conflicted members to vote a resolution to report our supervisor to every agency shy of the Girl Scouts for releasing documents through a legal FOIL. They lost and the AG exonerated him.
The Attorney General Investigation is still going on.
We have had great success in the legal political solution and our numbers now indicate that we are about to vote the corrupted out of office.
That is why the wind lease conflicted town board members have passed a law to disenfranchise anyone who would vote against them in the November election.
Of course the law won't fly but it has already launched what might be some very serious State and Federal charges of voting violations. And in those violations, the 3 public officials can't hide behind their office. They could be charged personally.
And we hear from the Great Wiley once again, this time telling us how difficult is has been for him and those like him to "sell" ignorance and hysteria about the dangers of the wind.
Why is it, Mr Wiley, that you want people voting in your election who are illegally registered to vote somewhere else? I have no concept of why you are against running an election where only legal voters are allowed to vote. It does not make your side look good at all. Again, if you care sooooo much about your environment and such, why don't you do something about the Cape Vincent trailer parks and waterfront homes that pump sewage directly into OUR St Lawrence River. You don't give a flip about that. Because you don't have to see it. You're just a not-in-my-backyard hypocrite.
"people voting in your election who are illegally registered to vote somewhere else?"
No one is intending to vote twice. What is happening is perfectly legal.
If anything the side that does not "look good" are the conflicted board members who tried to strip democracy from eligible citizens.
Doubt it, KC. All this does is make people nervous. If you are voting legally you would have no trouble with ID requirements. It's the fraud folk who are crying foul. And that be you. It's the same in major elections. The illegals don't want to prove they're identity either. It helps elect Annointed Ones and such. You're showing your true colors. If this is what the anti winders are about, then they are crooked. Not that I care, I'm not there. But I guess I could vote there now.
They didn't stipulate "ID requirements" - they stipulated driver's license.
Either way, it's completely out of their jurisdiction.
There are very elaborate systems to detect wether people are voting more than once. There is no proof, evidence, or reason to think these people are registering in Cape to vote twice.
There is however good reason for them to vote in Cape, where their vote will count the most in ridding the town of corrupt officials.
