It wasn't about party or platform...Just friends supporting one another and trying to do what's best for the City.
County Leg Chair Carolyn Fitzpatrick and I introduced Councilwoman Roxanne Burns at her campaign kickoff at the Paddock Club.
Mrs. Burns cited lower taxes, a raised credit rating, decreased debt, a reorganized Recreation Department and a soon to be completed Downtown streetscape as accomplishments. She also cited our efforts to save the Aviary built by her father in law, former Mayor Karl Burns.
There were lots of friends there and it was clearly the best hors d' ourvres so far this political season.
While there is no opposing candidate on the ballot, Mrs. Burns says she still believes its important to campaign to stay grounded with the voters.

Our City leaders are part of one big emutual support group, bettering the City for all, and why not let them stay in office forever? SSSSSUUUURRRRREEEE give me a break Graham.

I wish I could have been there. Couldn't go. I don't think I could have acted civilized anyway. Whata woman. Best of luck in whatever she decides to do.
No it's not their fault, Common folk dont want to be involved.
No new faces might be the fault of the law. Why not make it easier for the first two or three contenders to get on the ballot? Then you can require all those stupid signatures from the unwashed masses after you have enough contestants for a contest.
The City of Watertown's non partisan election law has the easiest petition requirements of any municipality. 149 signatures from any registered voter. There is no barrier to ballot status.
Its just no one wants to run.
Too many factors in play here that affect the outcome - I know I have tried in the past. The good old boy/girl network is alive and well and not much else. It's like going to City Hall to speak out and getting laughed at by sitting members. Kinda takes away from the whole shebang.
