This Krauthammer op/ed makes the best case for passing the Boehner Bill. While Tea Party activists may feel 2010 was some kind of mandate, the election stands in contradiction to 2006 and 2008 when voters opted for a different vision.
The 2012 election is the rubber match. To do what they want, Tea Party activists need to win the Senate and White House. They cannot institute major change from controlling (sort of) one house of Congress.
Raise the debt cap, cut a little spending and move on to the debate of 2012.

The government that governs best governs least.
Our government was purposely designed to make it so that when the minority was against something that they could stop it. Be it passing a new law or spending money.
In other words, you do not have to control two houses and the executive branch to stop something you only have to control all three to pass something. Again...that is by design. They could have easily written the constitution "best two out of three wins". That's not what the founders wanted.
What you are saying makes sense, Mr Mayor. I see your point. The problem is we are in such financial trouble I'm not sure we have the option of ignoring things for a couple more years. If we borrow a few more trillion and continue to ignore economic reality where are we going to be in two or three years? Say we get rid of the more Naaancy's and Annointed One's in 2012, it'll be 2013, 2014 before any changes are in place. What will unemployment and interest rates be by then? How much will the kids owe by then? The sooner we can start to address spending the easier this is going to be for all of us. Then again, what the hell. Borrow and spend, spend and borrow. It has worked before and I'm old.
As much as we dislike all of this bickering, one party controlling both houses and the White hasn't worked out real well either. The democrats controlled everything for 30 years or so and that's why we are in this mess today. The republicans controlled everything the first four years of the Bush years and they could have gone a long way toward solving this mess before it came to the critical mass stage we are now in. But they sat on their phat arsses and fiddled while the country burned. They spent their share of money we didn't have, too. One has to marvel at the wisdom of our Founding Fathers when you compare them to the abysmal quality of today's congress-critter. 8:21 has a very good post.
...They spent their share of money we didn't have, too...
Too? Who is the rest of too?
This is not about Obama and the Democrats spending their share...its about them spending 8 times their share instead of their share.
Is everyone here happy talking their nonsense and acting like they have any idea what bought the Republican Party to this sad stage in its history? Man we need to eliminate the Tea party as quickly as possible. Let the Koch brothers do it, because they bank rolled the Tea Party. We can then all move on to a commitment to sensible governmental policy making in Congress. The American people understand that while corporate profits are at an all time high the whole middle class in this country is under assault by these Tea Party morons the Mayor gives lip service to whenever he can. Please stop we're sick of it and your silliness.
Anti Tea Party
Yes, it certainly is silly, advocating that we live within our means. Silly silly. Is that a talking point put out by the Democrat party? I'll tell you silly. 40% of our expenditures being borrowed money. Silly silly silly. By all means lets just go on being reasonable. Avoid silly at all costs. Puke.
