Governor and Godsmack in the News Today

I am off to Potsdam to participate in the Governor's announcement of regional economic development councils, including one serving NNY counties. It's a new way to deliver the state's economic development program as ten regions will compete for grant money. Given the importance of jobs to this area, I look forward to participating in the program in whatever ways are appropriate.
Meanwhile I noticed there was a 9:30 presser today to announce the much talked about Godsmack concert is being held at Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville...just up the road from Ted Ford.
After a review of staff concerns over the logistics of such a large event at the Fairgrounds, the city manager had OK'd the concert with reasonable stipulations. A meeting with promoters had been slated for 11AM, but news of the change flashed across Newzjunky earlier in the morning.
I can only assume the facilities at the racetrack better suited the promoters and the event is still in Jefferson County, convenient to Route 81.
Meanwhile, the manager was meeting today on job descriptions for two new posts to oversee the Recreation Department. One a superintendent responsible for facilities and events management, the other a program director for recreation programs.
Events for this summer were reviewed on an individual basis and the Godsmack request, which was made in June required additional review due to concerns expressed by the Police Chief and others......Those were resolved this week, but the promoters felt their interests were better served at the more expansive Can-Am facility.

SURE she did. Did the city expect these people to wait on their "decision making" progress. Of course she did, we believe you. Good for AMP, good for Godsmack and a great for their fans. Not so good for the leadership in the city of Watertown. Sure she did approve it. We believe you!! The best act ever to hit the area is coming to LAFARGEVILLE!! Maybe their dozens of hotels and restaurants can reap the benefits. Sure she did.

Best act to ever hit the area? I doubt it.

Look the hotels will still get people staying there and Amp will be happy. Fans will be happy. The only people left out....The people who walk from the housing areas to the show. It's bad....But it's still going down the way it goes.

I have always Liked Graham and his honesty and willingness to let all opinions be heard within reason. But I get the distinct feeling that this concert was turned down for personnel vendetta reasons.

I am trying to recall a time when the city manager's job was on the line and then some council members ended up backing down. But the history is a foggy memory for me.

At any rate...I hope the revenge tasted good to whomever was serving himself/herself a dish of it...as the community is paying a hefty price for that dish.

If I were the city, I would have more concerns with the city sidewalk replacement program. From what I see everyday, I think a snail will make it to the end of Superior St., before the city does. I do know when a job is being milked, too bad there aren't any cows around.

Would not be an issue had it not been for Hip problems.

Next time have it at Evans Mills Speedway, the grandstands are bigger and it sits on edge of Ft Drum

The only thing worse than Graham getting reelected is any of the alternatives.

I hope some can grow the hell up. It isn't the end of the Earth if a concert gets cancelled. Worry about somthing a little more important. Like our country is in the red and it can't get any new money without tax hikes. Or asking another country for more. Or that the government has no clue what to do. The war still goes on in two countrys. The Arabs still hate the hell out of us. Summer is almost gone and winter brings more bills. I could go on and on. Again grow up.

Dont worry Ted Ford will have Addie secure funding for extra State Police for the event.
