President Obama said in a 1996 state senate campaign that he favors sames sex marriage...no downside to being so candid when running from an inner city district....By 2008, he was against gay marriage when he was trying to piece together 270 Electoral College votes. Now the President is considering whether he should come out in favor of what is now called "marriage equality."
The President is appearing at a couple of major gay pride events in coming weeks and the feeling is that its safe to come out in favor of same sex marriage now.
Mr. President, we accept your 1996 position as indicative of your views. You were like all other pos, in that you took the position you had to in 2008 in order to win Indiana and North Carolina.
As is always done in politics, you fudged your stand in order to achieve the greater good of getting elected. Happens all the time.
President Obama's Views on Gay Marriage 'Evolving' - NYTimes.com

Well sure the Great One's position is evolving. As a man with solid ethical values, you can expect him to stick a body part into the air and come out on the side of whatever is popular at the moment. That's part of being a progressive.
Why not assume he was telling people what they wanted to hear back in 1996 instead of today? Have you seen the polling data of blacks on this issue? We cannot forget that Obama is black above all other things, can we?
Evolve is a political choice of words. An honest definition involves developing traits and with gay marriage, marriage will have fewer traits. So a more proper word would be de-evolution.
OTOH...this could save his presidency. He has lost his base and the middle too. If he came out for gay marriage he might earn the half back that want it.
Of course he had the majority in both houses and could have gotten anything he wanted and he let it wither on the vine instead of implementing what he is supposedly in favor of.
To paraphrase the great Carl...the only thing Obama is in favor of is himself.
Progressives are not about popularity. They are about totalitarianism using the court system and a large and powerful government far removed from the people, via agency law or in NY they use "authoritys" too.
There little appeal to populism involves class warfare.
"We cannot forget that Obama is black above all other things, can we?"
Thanks for reminding us...I nearly forgot.
What we shouldn't forget is Obama is a liar above all things. How conveeeenient that his position evolves just as we are about to change the definition of marriage for the first time in two thousand years. Aren't we cool.
If we forget he is black we might forget to call you a racist. We can't have that. Then we would have to defend his stupid policies.
That's very true, 2:09. If you aren't for government destruction of healthcare, tax increases, spending to oblivion, big government programs, and continued loss of freedoms, then you must be racist.
Obama is NOT black. He is an official Mulatto. Not black, not white. He disrespected his birth Mother by ignoring her in his campaign for the darker votes. Shame on him. The President of the United States needs to stay OUT of social and sports issues. This guy needs to be the President.
