Cuomo: Prison closure announcement in next week or so - YNN, Your News Now

Pending announcements on prison closings are focused on facililties in Watertown and Ogdensburg.
The decision on which beds to eliminate was put off till lawmakers left Albany, leaving the bad new in the hands of the Governor. It is doubtful the Cuomo plan will be reversible.
There are four Senate districts likely immune from closure. Those are the ones represented by GOP Senators who crossed the aisle on the SSM vote. Those communities with strong enough ambient economies to withstand a closure might be more vulnerable. That makes me wonder about Dry Hill.
Of course, we all realize the cuts are part of the measures to balance the budget and save taxpayers money. So while we respect the goal, don't look for affected communties to endorse the results.

Why did Patty Plate vote for the budget? Why did the Senate leave this up to the governor and his cronies?

Way to play your cards...dumbasses

My bet : Dry Hill this yr Ogdensburg Next yr as this is not a one year problem.

Many professionals expect the economy to continue to decline with both a jobless and a slow growth rate to be with us for some time

Patty Ritchie the silent Senator will seal the doom of Several local corrections people. Her office will be making comment and directing the heat to the Gouvernor.
He can survive the controversy but Patty was warned that voting against the Governors agenda would have consequences.
She was told this morning for sure Dry Hill will immediately and Ogdensburg before the close of the year will start cleaning house. She dosnt have Aubertine to help the locals this time.. Also Nelson has been notified the Burg will be recieving a sum of money to be used to promote the usage of the old facility and its buildings. The Port Authority is trying to intervene to have the money split between the Port, Ogdensburg and The County.. This is what she knows but wont open her mouth in case something changes....

They were going to close the prisons last time too, so what's the difference?
Aubertine sold our souls and the golden goose for a year or two reprieve.

No one wanted patty to vote for Cuomo agenda. Besides...she already voted for his budget which was the big issue. What did she get for that?
Closed prisons?

There is no way any downstate prison could run as well as an upstate prison. We don't have any jobs up here so we get better employees for the same money.

Can you imagine trying to fill $35k or $45k jobs downstate? All the employees would suck and be the bottom of the barrel. It would cost hundreds of millions in sick time and lawsuits.

The old prisons are the ones to close. Ours are the old prisons. Remember a few years ago when the state wanted to build one in Hounsfield and you folks didn't want it. Remember. The guy that owned the comedy club led the charge against it, saying it would ruin the pretty little town. Well, you wouldn't have even seen it. Now, you pays the price. Actually, your kids pay the price. So who cares? Speaking of dumbasses.

The last thing in the world I would want is for my kid to be a prison guard. The only difference between the CO and the inmate is that the CO goes home to sleep.

The prison closure will have nothing to do with costs or old verses new it will have to do with trading votes and Patty traded her biggest vote for nothing.

Patty is not sealing anyone's doom, speaking of stupid statements 3:07. We don't need as many prisons. Some need to be closed. As a previous poster said, we had a chance to have a new one, but we didn't want it. Now we have ones that should be closed. So close them. Don't be stupid and play politics with something that we decided for ourselves.

Wonder how the Silent Senator - uh excuse me - Senator Jim Reagan - will spin this disaster.

Not a disaster at all , The Prison system is too costly , inefficient, ineffective and needs rightsizing . Privatize it now

These prisons were shoved down our throats by a select few insiders years ago and ANY opposition was marginalized .

So NOW finally we'll get rid of them -- I support the decision to downsize , consolidate .

Dry Hill will close, the county will get it before NOW for the county jail.

During last election I suggested researching the privatizing of some local prisons; the answers focused on the staffs at those prisons aren't well trained; the Mayor kept talking about some murderer escaping in AZ. from one private institution and I just shook my head. Well now jobs are being eliminated, any suggestions folks?

Cant do it MMM Gov. Pataki signed into law they cant be privatized, just like Gentleman Jim got the ball rolling with 25 yr. retirement and binding arbitration for Sheriff's Deputies.
