Assembly Passes Marriage But, But Tally Is Low

For the fourth session in a row the Assembly has passed a gay marriage bill, but the 80-63 margin was the smallest ever...Now attention shifts to the Senate where observers still think the Governor has the votes to pass it. Meanwhile NYC rent control got a two day extender to Friday as it will become part of some grand compromise on several issues.
So far no one has announced as the 32nd vote for same sex nuptuals....A lot are afraid of reelection consequences.
While shaky knees could defeat it, I don't think so...Too much is on the line for Andrew Cuomo who said he wouldnt bring the bill to the floor unless he knew he had the votes.

What is on the line for Cuomo?
He keeps his job as long as he wants to, no matter what happens with gay marriage.

10:22 is right. We're a one party state. Cuomo is the man as long as he wants to be. Then we will have Schneiderman.

A former mayor of Buffalo, Jimmy Griffin used to say he remembered the time when gay meant that you were happy.

Let 'em marry and be miserable just like other married couples with all the woes and worries and duties that go with marriage. So what? Not like a gay parent never raised a kid or anyone here never had a gay brother or sister or aunt or uncle who wanted to be happy.

Hell, even Michele Bachmann has a gay step-sister - betcha' didn't know that, right? And, she's the biggest phoney anti-gay candidate out there.

11:44,
Once you get past the marriage issue - and I cant see why people opposed get all worked up over it - you conservatives will realize that Cuomo is as good as a governor as you'll get in NY. Better than Pataki and way better than Rockefeller.

One more note from GOP State Senator Roy McDonald (43rd District: All of Rensselaer and part of Saratoga Counties), says:

"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing. You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fü©k it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."

He will vote "Yes." Good for him.
