While Democrats say they will introduce the new Jefferson County Treasurer at a fundraiser this weekend, the continued lack of a gubernatorial appointment may suggest they are having trouble finding a person for the job....
One party leader told me yesterday even waterboarding could not get him to reveal who the person is who will replace Treasurer Nancy Brown, who resigned the post effective last week.
Republicans have already privately said they will not have a candidate to be the County's fiscal watchdog.
Watertown Daily Times Deputy to run Jefferson treasurer's office until Cuomo makes appointment

That happened in Saint Lawrence County with the County Clerks office. The Govenor appointed a person of his own party. Once done this person let the first deputy go but kept the second deputy on and aopointed her first deputy. The GOP has been outraged since. The facts behind all the rucus is that the Deputy Mary Rupp had given a leave of absence to an employee and the legislators refused to fill that position until the leave was over. A real blunder on her part. Ms Rupp had only been with the dept a period of about two years when she was given the deputy job by thej now Senator Ritchie. seems Ritchie and Rupps families are friends both live in Heuvelton.. The second clerk Deputy had been with the dept for more than twenty years and was much more educated in the functions of that entire dept but as has it friendship and politics left her by the wayside.
Ive talked with several people that have used these services over the past months and its still a top quality operation without te poresence of Rupp. Most of the staff enjoy working for Mr. Regan and will continue to do so after the elections this November.
Mr. Regan is doing a fine job with the support of his staff regardless of what Rupps followers keep printing n the paper..
When let go Ms Rupp insisted on the County laying off one of the other workers so as she could have a job a right she forfited when sh accepted this posiiton..
Your facts are correct on the years of service. Mary Lou had only been there for a couple of years. Ms. Ritchie made her first Deputy. The reasons are unknown to me. Mary Lous total service to the County wasnt quite six years and she had absolutely no union bumping right but tried to pursuade the legislators to do so..
The other fact you point out is that the other deputy had mega years of service in the County Clerks office and was much more versed on the total duties.. I checked with people in the County that know these facts, and found out that also was true.
I came to the assumption quickly that Ritchie and the GOP have been playing party favorites while having control o the office but that seems to have ended.
Rupp did let another employee leave her job for a new one and tried to hold it for her, a practice that is up to the dept heads. She however tried to fill the position and the legislators turned her down. She then tried to make the legislators look like they were willing to work short and jeapordise the operations of that department. Her constant drumming this fact plus the fact she had the local media pursuaded to keep pressure on the legislators with negative ink about this issue all led to her dismissal in my estimation.
The real factor however was the fact Cumo is a democrat and his privilige to appoint a much more competant person.. Hope you Jeff Co people have the same good fortune
I'll betcha it will be Syawn Hennessee. Especially since the appointed will be unopposed this fall. Made to order lifetime job for a political servant.
Al Drake is the choice.
