Congressman Questions Mechanical Signature of Bill

When is a signature a signature ? Its a tradition in society that a person's signature validates a document. That is why people like me take a test and an oath as notaries, in order to validate that the person signing a particular document is who they say they are.
Now the President has ordered a bill signed by a mechanical device called an "auto-pen" which is I guess used routinely to sign letters from the White House. The reason is that Mr. Obama was in Europe and wanted to sign an extension of the Patriot Act before a midnight deadline.
There was talk of flying the bill to France.....After all, look at all the chefs, hairdressers and hangers-on who were flown to Europe for the trip...
Maybe the Congressman who questioned this can just be dismissed as racist, but the President should sign the bill. Next time fly it over...a little more carbon footprint won't hurt...Or better yet, cut back on the globetrotting.

The Vacationer in Chief should spend more time in D.C. and he would be known as the Stacationer in Chief. Just think of all the fuel that would be saved, gas prices would plummet.

Jet setting? Get real. His overseas trip was business. Why don't you read the news before pretending to comment on it???

Among other things, he had a GB summit in France. But I guess you think China and Russia should just run the world without US input.

Your dislike of anything this President does is not only unpatriotic - yes, I said it to you Republican-Obama Haters, but it is just plain ignorant.

Read a book. Or, at least read something more than FoxNews.

Uh... what, Graham? Who is talking about racism? I thought you were smarter than that?

Nice to see the First Black Prezident was too busy traveling to be around for Memorial Day. Probably not a big deal. His core voters don't much care about this holiday.

it's really weird to hear people complain about the scandalous amount of vacation time obama takes. i'm old enough to remember all the way back to when george w. bush was president and he took far more time off.

When you criticize Obama for these petty offenses such as not signing a bill in the old fashioned way, you marginalize all of the genuine grave criticisms of Obama.

It does not matter what Mr. Obama does or doesn't do; thinks or doesn't think; tries or doesn't try; proposes or doesn't propose, etc. The man can't please the GOP or anyone else on that side.

They will never, ever be satisfied with anything he does.

Morons, let me help you out with this. Stop watching Fox News. Obama hasn't been on vacation, he has actually been doing his job. The G8 Summit is a real thing. America needs to be there.

If you want a President who likes to vacation, you had 8 years of George Bush clearing grass in Crawford Texas.

As for Obama not being here for Memorial Day, he is here you dope. Indeed, he is actually visiting people in Joplin who have no homes after the awful tornado. I'm guessing he's not just visiting Democrats there, but rather being an adult President.

Again I say, try reading the news rather than making it up based on a few minutes watching Fox or skimming this mayor's superficial blog.

I don't know, 3:41,--- I don't think Bush's time in Crawford was necessarily vacation time. His handlers were smart enough to keep him away from the public, and in his element.
East Bum, Texas.
Obama can speak well,... Bush,-- not so much. Kept him home.

Kermit, you're lying. GW did not take more time off to travel than this guy does. Your dishonesty is predictably one sided.

On the other hand, the country would be better off if the guy simply flew around the world giving sermons to the masses. I would happy if the man would learn to come somewhere close to spending what the nation can afford to spend. But to his worshippers, none of that matters in the least. This debt will never be addressed, and the FreeStuff crowd thinks that's just fine. Guys like Dannie and Limwit are obviously doing ok with these policies in place. Some are. Limmie, what kind of government job do you have?

of course crazy wingnut trolls don't deserve direct responses, but this is a good opportunity to point out the differences between people like me and tea partiers like him.

i didn't just claim that obama has vacationed far less than bush, i actually looked things up and gave a citation. here's yet another link. and since i know our irascible companion doesn't always have the best reading comprehension, let me pull out the key quote (emphasis mine):

As of [August 19 last year], [Obama] has spent all or part of 38 days on "vacation" away from the White House. He has also made 14 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 32 days. It brings his total time away to all or part of 70 days.

It's less than the "vacation" time taken during the same period by his immediate predecessor....

As of this point in his 1st term, Mr. Bush had made 14 visits to his Texas ranch spanning all or part of 102 days. He also made 40 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 123 days. His "vacation" total at this point in his presidency was all or part of 225 days away.

so no, it's the tea partier who's lying. or maybe he's just ignorant. or maybe he doesn't know how hyperlinks work. but at any rate, this is vintage tea partier stuff. a total inability to process facts that contradict their ideology.

next thing you know, we'll be hearing about how the laws of arithmetic have a liberal bias.

I wish Obama would take a permanent vacation.

Wingnut Nation is certain of their facts 100% of the Time after all Uncle Rush and Fox News are Credible sources.

But u have to hand it to the wingnuts. It's damn hard for them to type up a response from their dimly lit, underground bomb shelters where they have their UNSTAMPED arsenal.
