I noticed the Watertown School District is putting out press releaes on gun related incidents in the wake of the kerfuffle over a BB gun resulting in suspension of a student at Wiley Middle School....
Today's release mentions one student with a "nerf" pistol toy...A full scale probe is underway...Good grief !
The need is felt for lots of transparency and that is fine, but the public and media will lose interest after a couple of these announcements....
Rules are rules and toy guns don't need to be there, and at some point the Superintendent's best judgement has to be acceptable..Publishing the names of the parents would help too...
It might be interesting to have a tick-tock every day of people hauled down to the office for discipline.....I suspect the appetite would diminish when the kids of news barons did something boneheaded.

In my last comment about this issue I didn't think to mention the intermediate step between Airsoft "guns" and crayon drawings of guns were the dangerous class of Nerf/water "guns".

This is never going to end. Enjoy the hysteria. You gotta kid with a fuzzy toy. The situation gets reviewed by an Asst Principal, a Principal, an Asst Supt, a Super, then the School Board. Right there is about three quarters of a million dollars in expert reviews. Ain't this the funnest thing? And I'm sure I left out some committee or two. Hahahahahahaha.
When I first read about this I thought the superintendent was being a smart a$$ and communicating how stupid it is to expect every incident be reported to the parents.
But then, knowing the superintendent, I think he is doing what he foolishly thinks the public wants.
Now is the opportunity for WHS to hire the GB super!
That could be an option, 7:32. If we can get the General Brown guy we can have a Super Superintendent, with a salary at least in the $175k-200k range. Even in Mikey language that's real money. With benefits it would cost taxpayers fifty grand more. But that doesn't count because that money comes from a dream somewhere, right Mikey?
Ahhh...the "Zero Tolerance" Liberals in action again. See how they've ruined our school system.
The sad part about everyone is they can't take the time to read. He never took the toy out in school. Yes he showed it to some friends...They looked into his bag and saw it....Big deal. He got what he should and it's over.
With the zero tolerance behavior of the school district leaders we could and should replace them with a simple check off list.
