City Council has agreed to cut property taxes by 2.5% in the last move before adopting a budget in a week...Lawmakers also approved a contract with the Wizards basesball team that grants concession rights for concerts to the organizers of the event and allows the baseball team to play this summer.
Council also agreed to a simplified two tier system of water rates that will slightly lower residential rates.
The budget season was busy but in the end the City has a spending plan that preserves services, enhances the Library and reduces taxes, while still maintaining a healthy fund balance. The City's debt load is also reduced as a result of the spending plan.

How about eliminating city property taxes altogether by relying on sales tax revenue to pay for city services? That would be a bold way to prove you're a real tea partier.
I heard Dan on the hotline today talking about water rates. Does he have any real world business experience? If he did, he should know that a business can purchase virtually any commodity in bulk, cheaper than a typical homeowner can in single-use quantities.
If you think you have the upper hand on city businesses and can get away with charging them the same water rate as residential customer, that is one thing. But lets at least acknowledge it is the businesses and high usage customers that are subsidizing the small users, not the other way around.
I'm sure Dannie believes his water should be free, seeings how he's a vet and all. We do give him a break on his property taxes. Why shouldn't he get a break on water? FreeStuff knows no bounds.
Anonymous 11:00: Water should be paid for as it's used - not like it's purchased in "bulk amounts" as you state. That's why homes have water meters: to be read and then the resident is billed and pays accordingly. Not withstanding your insults of course, you are a pathetic little insect.
Anonymous 11:25: Another insulting worm on the forum who can't even spell my name. What a surprise. "You" don't give me anything that I have not earned or am entitled to -- the people through laws passed for combat Vet exemptions have -- which I'ma guessin' you ain't one.
You and the other Anonymous must be related or twins separated at the lip.
