WDT: Superintendents Shoot At Albany Again
Never have so many been paid so much to do so much complaining....Superintendents from St. Lawrence County's 17...that's right 17....school districts are whining about how the state does business and insist that's the reason they had to cut positions.... No, the reason is there isn't enough money to continue as things are now and that means making cuts. That's what Albany, in its convoluted dysfunctional way, was trying to say....Its not about formulas and pitting regions of the state against one another. In a small way....with a two percent cut....the superintendents are being told to get their job done. They and their posse of fellow administrators are among the economic elite in this relatively poor region of NYS.... If schools are "squeezed" so be it....Necessity is the mother of invention and lavishing more money on a situation is not the answer. Watertown Daily Times Albany is faulted for squeeze on schools

Notice that the Watertown Times has been printing a series of retractions in recent days. Now they are claiming these same districts where the sky was falling just days ago are restoring the cuts they claimed to have made. Its this annual we weren't really lying it was really bad but now we're better off than we thought campaign. And again, fully supported by the cry staff at the Watertown Times. I'll just betcha, after the districts cover for each other and the funds they didn't know about surface, the hit list goes from dozens to about two. But you will see no specific follow up from the WDT. That would involve work. And not just one call to Jackie Boak.
We have bright kids up here in NNY. It's an ever present truth that a student is as good as the programs and teachers offered to provide the education, that makes our kids competitive in the marketplace. Nothing will change that and if the Politician that represents your area doesn't care, he or she also won't have to live with the result of a kids failure to reach their potential in life; but the child and loving parent will endure the pain it generates forever. Fight for a world class education for your child and they’ll accomplish things the world will take notice of and we all want that as parents.

Its not about formulas and pitting regions of the state against one another.
Yes it is.
The state takes over half our sales tax. all of our cigarette taxes, all of our gasoline taxes, all of our lottery and alcohol taxes, all those license and registration fees and all those fees from tickets.
And then they divvy it back up to us like a pimp giving a prostitute some money for some clothes.
Formulas matter!
The democrats tied the superintendents hands with a gazillion laws and so the only thing to cut is the new teachers.
They don't have the option of putting out their roof for bid without paying the engineering cartels a cut.
They don't have the option of tearing a building down without paying off the cartels and the asbestos profiteers.
Meanwhile they have to defend against lawsuits for "learning disabled" students or gay clubs.
Or not "accommodating" a former music teacher.
On second thought, maybe Graham is right. Maybe the superintendents need to learn to budget like he does with the city of Watertown. Where every other expenditure is done with grant money.
MCM ; We are enduring the pain; it's called "overtaxed", and driving business away from NYS; the top spender in education in the nation, and again, #35 in education results. Show me the pain that you are talking about.
Its an "ever present truth that a student is as good as the programs and teachers offered to provide the education, that makes our kids competitive in the market place."
Mikey
Now will someone please explain to me what the heck that meant? You gotta be one advanced individual to write pablum on that level. What is it that you propose to teach, Mikey?

The purpose of education to a large degree is linked to Thomas E. Dewey's great quote, "Education is the cultural transmission of social values." but I don't expect you to understand that as you have so little understanding in you; as is reflected in your comments.
