Smoking Gradually Being Outlawed

Anti tobacco crusaders say they will have public smoking bans in all fifty (or is it 57?) states by 2020.
They can keep passing laws, but one thing the government is unable to do is stop the exodus of cigarettes from Indian resservations...I had somebody today telling me they bought 15 cartons the other day at Akwasasne at about half the price you pay in a duly licensed NY store...What's that say to a sap like me who pays for a license and pays the long prices for smokes just to make a 50 to 70 cent per pack mark up..? And that's for name brand cigarettes. The native brands are much less.
What it says is most people with both cents and sense will continue to do an end run around the do gooders who think shaking down dumb, addicted people is great public policy.

I have never smoked but I think the way we treat smokers is a shame. Maybe they need a smoker-pride- parade to start getting recognized for the oppression they suffer.

I know a guy who got popped the other day for going to the Rez to buy ciggies. The poor bum is a lot poorer now. He got fined, they whacked his pee pee and made an example of him. This is the same government that steals money, gives it to June O'Neill, calls it fine, and tacks in onto her pension slush fund. Moral, stop smoking and steal from kids.

Jeff
correction on your figures;name brand cost just less than
$90/carton(200) and res ciggs in a bag are a little over $14 for the same count. I believe that's about 1/6th the amount.
Be careful there are lots of new road blocks and you can't carry more than 2 cartons in your vehicle. Also another smart move by NYS, since new $1.60 tax, cigg sales are down 30 to 40 percent statewide.BRILLANT AREN'T THEY!!

I had a boss about ten years ago who was very much against smoking. But on the other hand he would go home and smoke his dope. Even made a couple of his pipes on the job. So all you anti- tobacco crusaders, stick it.

Odd combo isn't it?

Outlaw smoking but keep the legal product.

What's in play here - oh, yeah, PAC money from big tobacco... yepper.

It has nothing to do with big tobacco money and you know it Dannie. It has to do with government already having programs in place to spend the money they take from poor saps who still smoke. Your blessed government wants it both ways. And because of people like you who can't bring yourself to recognize reality they are pulling it off. Big tobacco has already bought up enough other business to diversify.

Dannie, any comments on June O'Neill's windfall from the kids? We'd love to hear from a non partisan moralist like you.

Smoking kill you and the people around you. My Mom died at 50 after smoking for 36 years and Dad at 56 after smoking nearly as long. And lung cancer got my brother too. The rest of us suffer from alergies and other nasty lung aliments. Should Smoking should be banned? Absolutely

No, people should be encouraged to make smarted decisions than to smoke for 36 years. My parents quit, and convinced me to never start. Sorry for your loss, 6:40 but it is not the government's job to teach your family how to make personal health decisions. Do you eat quarter pounders all the time? Let's outlaw them. If your parents did for 36 years they would have died for that too. If they never exercised for 36 years they would have died for that too. I smell a new government program here, or at the very least a couple new laws. I hope they never ate chili or played kickball. Heavens.

I feel bad for the one person loosing loved ones....Still what's next? Drinking. I lost a few good people I know to drinking. They killed their bodys with drinking. While others drink a beer once a week and have no problem. Should that person be told they can't drink? I had an Uncle who was well into his 80s smoking. My Gramp was 99 and developed cancer. He smoked like a well...Smoke stack. He was happy and harmed no one. No real answer.

And that's the truth, CR. Nobody puts the resposibility on the individual. They want it placed on government. They want a law. They want a tax. They want fines and programs. How big of a dumbass do you have to be to know that smoking is bad for you. Yet you smoke for years and years? Are you saying the people would stop of Schmuck Schumer told them to? Exercise your right as a free American and make a wise choice. I'm so tired of dumbasses who can't decide to wipe their butts unless someone tells them its a good idea. Does ya need a hint? Maybe Obama can cook up a federal program and borrow some Chinese money to pay for it.
