Newzjunky - Butler: With Stricter Noise Ordinance, Next Step Is Enforcing It
The noise law proposed by Councilman Joe Butler Jr passed, but whether it does anything is an open question. It is an effort to crack down on loud car stereos but there are concerns about enforceability and whether there is really a problem. There are problems with property owner to property owner disputes over noise, but this local law is clearly aimed at automobiles on the move. An alternative version of the law was prepared at my request but that was not embraced by the Council. This new law was a signature project of Mr. Butler and I congratulate him on his success. A concurrent and more vexing problem is playing out on Casey Street with a group of neighbors upset over a car stereo shop they say is tormenting them with low frequency vibration. I am not sure the new law resolves that dispute. Newzjunky - Butler: With Stricter Noise Ordinance, Next Step Is Enforcing It

I do not see what the big deal is. Do we trust cops when they write down what the radar clocked a car at? So unless you think city cops are out there giving out bogus tickets, just give them the direction to start citing vehicles that are, "in their opinion" disturbing the peace. No new law needed!
No conviction is necessary for it to curtail the problem. Just the inconvenience of being stopped will stop most offenders. We just saw what happened to the comedy club owner.
What new feel good law is Smith going to come up with next week so he can make a run on something?
I applaud this ordinance and Councilman Butler's efforts with getting it passed. I am sick of listening to the thumping and banging that these cars make. Yes, they are moving, but there are so many of them that the people on high traffic routes get nailed all day long, and if you are lucky like me there is a stop light and when they get stuck there we get the added treat of listening to it until the light changes. Nothing like trying to have a conversation and you have to wait for the 18 year old with the crooked hat to go through the light before I can continue to have a conversation. Enforcing this is common sense. If the officers cup is rattling in the cup holder, write the ticket!!! It is really easy to pick out the offenders. All other major municipalities in the state have similar ordinances that they enforce with success. Syracuse is a good example. Maybe we need to send an officer to Syracuse for training. Election time is coming and the council better know we all expect to have quieter streets this summer!!! There are a lot of us that want this and we will organize and hold elected officials responsible. We pay taxes and we pay all the saleries for the city government and the police department. Now do something to earn it!!!
Well I'm getting the 19 to 20 something kids together....Getting them set to vote...and having them go with a person who doesn't see the need to push laws on us...That isn't Mr. Butler...Guess who..
Yoda, how do you feel about the laws against murder?
It is pretty obvious that the lines of freedom need to be drawn somewhere between letting you do whatever you want and letting you infringe the rights of others to not have their fillings vibrated lose with your stupid stereo that you installed because you could not get laid.
Yoda: 18 and 19 year olds typically do not own homes and pay taxes here. They need to respect the rights of others to enjoy peaceful use of thier homes and property. They need to go out of the city if they want to make that much noise. I would get a ticket if I did it at home, why can they go out and make a mobile nusiance out of themselves?
When you are standing on your front yard with your pants pulled up high and yelling at the kids to get off your yard.....You are just getting old....time for you to move out of the city to a nice quite country home. :)
Yoda: I am actually quite young, but I am trying to raise children and they do not need to be woke in the middle of the night or exposed to profanity when they are outside playing. Communities need standards. It is not a free for all.
Yes I understand the need to protect the kids. Just don't over do it. They will see what you don't wnat them to see soon enough..... At the Watertown Schools.
