Loo a Loser for Organize Labor ?

A WDT reporter asked me yesterday my thoughts on the prefabricated public rest rooms being installed in the JB Wise parking lot as part of a pavillion to be used for public events there.
The structure arrived on a flatbed and is a pre-built structure, but I am told a gentleman from one of trade unions is planning a protest because it was not built on the spot by union masons and carpenters.
The engineer plans for the project called for the prebuilt rest room as it is said to be less expensive than building on the spot.  I suppose the question of the Wick's Law could also be raised.
I think its an attractive structure and would be a great addition in public venues like the Fairgrounds or Thompson Park which often lack suitable facilities for when nature calls...
I guess before you go, its common practice for some to look for the union label.

Didnt this also happen with the "Franklin St Building" Beasley wanted to pay under union wages?

I thought of the missed local job opportunities when I heard you mention it was prefab on the hotline.

The problem is, the unions have paid to have the laws written for "prevailing rate". But prevailing rate was interpreted by the courts to mean "stupid meticulously high rate".

Wouldn't it be nice if we could get the wages down to 18 to 30 bucks an hour and then we could afford to build things here? Or better yet would be piece work with a guaranteed min hourly rate.

New York General Municipal Law § 101, known as Wicks Law, provides that when the total cost of contract work for the erection, construction, reconstruction, or alteration of a public building exceeds $500,000 or more, independent prime contractors must be used for the 1) plumbing and gas fitting work; 2) steam, hot water heating, ventilation and air conditioning work; and 3) electrical wiring and illuminating fixtures work.

Maybe the union memers will show their displeasure by not using the facilities. They'll hold it in until they can go home to do their thing. They'll show us taxpayers!!!

Wicks law is proof that Cuomo sucks.
The repeal of that law is the type of reform this state really needs.

Since the building was bought in an already erected state, we can get out of it. But all the poor school districts that are "cash strapped" cannot.
