Governor Cuomo has appointed a man as St. Lawrence County Clerk....His name is Gavin Regan and he is from Potsdam...He will face acting clerk MaryLou Rupp in the fall election....Obviously Mary Lou won't be acting very long, so the fall election is about who gets to be employed for four years.
Senator Patty Ritchie will pull out the stops in trying to get her friend elected and that's a big plus for Ms. Rupp.
Mr. Regan gets to run in a Democrat leaning county, but its not clear that party edge stretches to local races like this.
Also, will Mr. Regan continue a Ritchie policy of processing NYC registrations which had become a source of revenue to SLC ?

Watch closely everyone. Gov Coumo is going to shake up Albany. Nice start. Appoint a clueless person to the post so he can learn the job just because he's a dem. Don't let the voters decide or let the deputy clerk handle the job till the election. next he will shake up the unions, oh just kidding. The media loved the golden boy from the start and be careful what you wish for. The Governor made a good choice - someone with financial and managerial experience - not just a friend of Patty's. I've heard that Rupp (who was Patty's deputy) couldn't even answer basic questions about why a position she was asking to hire was necessary. Good riddance.
Seriously 6:28AM - the Governor has not taken away the voters right to decide who will be County Clerk. There is an election in November or did you conveniently forget that?
I new the Republicans would be bitter. The same reaction the Democrats would have had if the shoe was on the other foot.
I know this 628 Gavin is not clueless to anything. Its offically now his department and will be run the way he sees fit. If anyone has the perception that it takes a rocket scientist to run a county clerks office your wrong. Its basic job is that of a cleraing house. It charges fees. Ms Ritchie was only a clerk in the DMv when she ran. She won it on her popularity not her experience so dont go their with your BS about clueless. Mr Regan will take the office and soon set either new goals or keep it running the way it already is. As far as this pumped up BS about NYC rebvenues I say this. That could end today or tommorrow period. Then what? We then have extra people on the payroll...
Another thing to look for is for Rithie to influence this practice to come to an end to make Regan look bad. Could happen you know.. Remember Rtichie didnt think this plan up.. This happened because a Senator called Libeos make strong suggestions for it to happen . Ritchie just jumped on the band wagon first. I personally look for Rupp to do something that may prompt Regan to let her fo. Shes a typical GOP BShitter..
If she does her job right shes alright. If she is incompetant she will be fired period end of conversation.
Budget wise she was fired. She wanted Pat Ritchies job. Her position became vunerable as others were doing her job. Now Regan is in charge and she is dead weight. Simple math... Political.. Possibly but the other clerk remains. She keeps her nose to the grind and shuts her mouth. She was interested in the job but dosnt have near the resourses Rupp has in order to run.Rupp has spewed her BS from day one of taking over. Would you all keep her on. This also should give you some insite as to how much politcal punch Pat Ritchie has in Albany.
