A reliable source called today to say that newly minted SLC Clerk Gavin Regan wasted not time in sacking his political rival, acting clerk Mary Lou Rupp...
Regan took the oath today and Ms Rupp....a long time protege of former clerk and now Senator Patty Ritchie....is said to be gone from the office. Of course that is to be expected as the Clerk appoints the deputy.
Ms. Rupp will be running against Mr. Regan in the fall.
Regan is a financial planner from Potsdam.
My guess is he has a hard time in November as Mrs. Ritchie spent a lot of time last year promoting the job her office had done and that good press accrues to Ms. Rupp. Also most people don't understand that in appointed patronage jobs, you get canned when this happens....Ms. Rupp will get sympathy.
And I hate to say it, but many people think a clerk job is for women....That's old thinking, but its one of those conventional wisdoms that is in many psyches.

Only a damn politician would put a neophyte with ZERO experience in public service in a responsible position over a person who has faithfully executed their duties for yrs IN THE FIELD . This simply continues behavior that is not only stupid but refutes the so called reformer image of the governor
I am NOT a Republican BUT a registered Dem . This behavior NEEDS to change , Cuomo sure as hell isn't a REFORMER with THIS action -- shameful

Knew the ground rules before she took the job.. Her husband and her are very well off and entrenched in the GOBs butts and thats how she got the job... Tell me the difference?

Ritchie won the job against a SLC legislator years ago. She did a very good job but no better than her teacher Orin Thomas who served for years. Rithcie just became more vocal and popular with the legislators and sucked up to the GOP as tight as she could get.. Rupp did the same thing sucked up to Patty and helped her during her run for the job and was paid by getting a Deputy post.

Dont forget who also is appointed. The County Manager. Karen S is appointed by the Democrats who have the majority. When the Republicans were in office they had Brining. Regan will have had is changes and new Deputy clerk in place by then... And the games go on and on and on...
What is the Governor thinking? Well, evidently, he isn't. After reading about this guy he'll have the SLC Clerk's office so screwed up within a short period of time it won't be funny. Even a Helper Monkey won't be of use to this most UNQUALIFIED candidate. Can't wait for November. What goes around; comes around.
228. How much experience did Ritchie have when she won the election over Teele? How much experience did Rupp have when Ritchie hired her? How much experience did any of our legislators have when they run for the first time? How much experienece did the commissioner of Dept social service have when he was hired? How much experience did the County Manager have when she was appointed?
It happens daily grow up and live with it. In the fall our Senator can take time out of her busy schedule and campaign for Rupp. Better yet Rupp can run Ritchies office for her.
Experience is gained as time goes on. You live and learn from these experiences.
Firing her was his right and I no of nobody in the same position who wouldnt have.

This was political suicide! Firing a very good worker for no apparent reason. If he won the election in November and wanted to change deputies, all well and good. His press release in the paper indicated Mrs. Rupp would retain her job, how soon that changed.
This will have a major financial impact on Mr. and Mrs. Rupp and their children. Mr. Regan believes he can make it harder for them to run an effective campaign. This is wrong and I will do everything to help Mrs. Rupp take the Clerk's Office in November.

Poly.. Think hard and long. How did Rupp get her job? How many people in that Dept worked there and didnt get promoted when she was hired? The second Deputy was bypassed for promotion by Patty. Why? Because Patty had the right to do it?
When Patty made promotions it was alright. When Patty bi passed people for promotions it was alright

Poly, Agree totally. There is a difference between right and wrong and this is just plain wrong. If Rupp was appointed as deputy then she has been in on the revenue increase the county has seen from this dept since day one. Who is the connection to all these dealers in NYC now Gavin? This has Bella dipstict written all over it. Big mistake Markie. This is another taxpayer who will help considerably with Financial as well as foot support. Game on.

Patty Ritchie appointed her to her position as is her privilage.Who else was in line for a job over there.Who got bypassed becaus4e of Pats appointment. Mr Regan exercised his privilige.
Its not like the man is a woodchuck with no friends. People within that department are glad to get rid of her and have a fresh face. Some will like him and some wont. Human nature. The dept fall apart, Not going to happen...
Fall will bring another story. The voters take to the polls. The most money will win.. They are well to do and could eventually buy the election. She will get Pats endorcement which will help but it will be interesting.

I believe the legislators took pride in never having to lay anyone off during the tough budgets except through attrition. Meeting upon meeting fighting over what to cut and nobody loses a job. Now the appointed great one does the layoff gig on day one when he doesn't even know where to look up a marriage certificate. How frugle can one get? Bellardipstick at his best.

Prediction:
Next Fall Reagan will be looking for work as SLC voters rather than Party Hacks decide. Our last CC was ELECTED and worked in the office for many yrs BEFORE she was Elected and had a depth of experience .
I'm a dem and thought she was a very good and effective CC.
Moreover , I thought she would have been well advised to STAY in that role where she had impact , rather than join that dysfunctional debating society in Albany.
This guy proved to me one DAY one that he is a pawn .
