Saturday Musings

-The first ever woman on a national ticket has died. Geraldine Ferraro died today at age 75. The former Member of Congress was running mate for Walter Mondale in the 1984 election. Ms. Ferraro more recently had been a commentator.
-In news that's important 30 miles away but we are oblivious to, a no confidence vote in the Canadian Parliament has toppled the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. New elections are likely in May.
-Anchors away...Reports are Katie Couric is done in June.
-Remember that six dollars a customer disputed on his credit card...Well he came in last night and gave me the six dollars, because as I said the anticipated tip gets reconciled by the credit card processor in a couple of days.....I had given him the six bucks rather than argue.

My wife has been a waitress for 13 years most of her adult life.I have always thought it best myself to leave cash for a tip & if your using acredit card scratch out the tip line still leave a good tip if the service was good. One other thing I dont believe a server shuold have to bring her own money to give change,it should be the buisness owners job to run the till servers sould not be there bank do you agree?

I met that lady in Thompson Park. I'm sorry to see her pass. She was a very nice looking woman. If she was a Republican Dannie would have hated her to no end.

A loss to politics for sure.

Canada has a Parliamentary system and in federal elections, voters choose their Member of Parliament from districts, which are called "ridings."
There are four major parties, the Progressive Conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democrats and the Parti Quebecois, a regional Francophone based party.
The goal is to get a majority government, with the leader of the caucus becoming the Prime Minister and others becoming cabinet ministers.
Often, as with Mr. Harper one party gets the most seats but not a majority and is able to form a coalition government such as England now has...A no confidence vote of the body can force an election at any time...
Call Brian Ashley for a more complete explanation.

Rest in peace Gerry. You were a trail blazer and role model.
