Aside from the horrible human tragedy, the Japanese earthquake is now punctuated by a potential nuclear plant disaster that will have a ripple effect worldwide.
The effect on the nuclear power energy may be significant at a time when nukes are being looked at again by many as a power source. Of course its important to remember the situation is fluid now and may not be as dire as early news accounts suggest...We can only hope.,
Meanwhile the pictures of the event are staggering and sobering.

Maybe a double Nuclear core meltdown. When you have a melt down in Asia 'China Syndrome' do you call it "America Syndrome'?
I sure hope Rep. Cris Gibson(R) has been paying attention. Maybe he could build his proposed Atomic Reactor in Kinderhook, maybe two. Go for it, Chris.
Mayor, this is amazing in its scope and implications and I hope God is looking out for the people of Japan. As I understand it no one thought building for an 8.9 event was necessary. But could anything have been done here to insure electrical power was available for Nuclear Plants during such a catastrophe? This would have enabled Engineers to keep the Core cool as I understand it. That will be important for the future of Nuclear Power in our Country if it has one at all now.

It sounds way worse than our ice storm. I feel for them.
Oh for Pete's sake, he's talking about God again. A man who couldn't bring himself to mention the name always seems to bring him up when the going gets tough. Fair weather friend. World is full of that.
As far as energy, I agree Jeff. Its back to coal and wind unless they can find a way to design against everything that could ever happen. But no wind near Wiley's house.
