Despite his stated desire to offer "change we can believe in" here is President Barack Obama lauching a shock and awe attack on a Muslim country while stating "our cause is just." It is Mr. Obama's first war to start and puts the USA in its third Mideast conflict, although the President repeatedly has insisted no US troops will land on Libyan soil.
I talked to a variety of folks while working yesterday, ranging from Army soldiers just back or on their way to the region and local working folks who know the meaning of the phrase "deja vu."
There is no rah-rah feeling on this. No desire to help the plucky freedom fighters rising up against Muamar Khadaffy, whom the US had made its peace with in a Faustian bargain to go along and get along in this oil-rich region.
The opening salvo had 114 cruise missiles launched...What are they a million bucks each ? Where is that money coming from ? How many more of these excursions can we afford ?
As one teacher sipping a Captain Morgan and Coke said. "I am becoming more of an isolationist every day." For a lot of Americans this action is not about "supporting the troops"....it's about pulling the covers over your head and hoping the morning brings better news.

I can understand the teacher's point of view. We have to remain isolationist if we are to afford her lifestyle.
We couldn't stand back and watch Quakduzzy murder his own country. Obamba did the right thing, late.
I think the cruise missiles are only 600k each.
Must be France is not making any money with oil for food scams. Remember when they declined to let RR fly over France to deliver some justice?
We had a no fly zone for Iraq for years with no all out war. So this one should be do-able.
Is Obama a war criminal now like Bush was? He is, after all, invading a sovereign country unilaterally. His coalition is just a bunch of bribed third world countries. Russia and China did not agree to this. He is a cowboy
Some people knew when Georg Bush started war one and two that it was strictly agenda and politics. They got knocked by all the media and stars like Toby Keith... Rah Rah then people like him cut records making millions actually on the war..
Time to quit rattling the sabre folks and clean up America and not the middle east... People here starving and living in poverty. Millions living under bridges and on the street, millions more working multi jobs to keep their familys afloat. Wall St millonaires caused most of the Chaos here but they are still thriving... Earthquake in Japan send them millions in Aide, hunger here and there send them millions I am just a little sick of this while our own suffer....
Enough is enough already!! The United States cannot afford to be the world's policeman. Let's start taking care of our own already. Although, if O'bummer would cut back on some of his vacations and overseas jaunts, we could probably afford a few missiles to throw at them.
Only if we're in it to win it !
hey, 8:35. When has the United States EVER practiced "isolationism"? Put the comic-book straw-man plot away.
BS - this is not another war - it's, um ... a humanitarian effort and it helps France save face for not helping Egypt, and allows a leader of a country to conduct a civil war without us calling war to get things bad on track so he can govern effective.
So get real, this is not war.
Besides in order to be a "real" war, our congress has to declare it one. And, the UN is a peacekeeping outfit; they don't make, declare, start, or get involved in war.
Jeez...
(I sit back now and wait for the return fire ... this outta be good).
I was for this policy weeks ago. A ‘LEADER’ is often forced to do what he is obligated to do. Not what he wants to do just, because the timing is good and it’s easy to act. I stand with President Obama, and USA, France and Britain, etc. on this action. We'll stop Quadaaffi in his tracks and his supporters will melt away faster than anyone might expect. He's my President and he acted correctly on Libya, and in the end it will help stop Dictators from killing their own people. It was important to do that and the People of the Middle-East will remember the World and America took the time to do it. We stand for something and it includes Freedom and Democracy for the people of our Planet
Middle Class Mike
MMM How about the home-grown dictators like all the politicans who want their PORK there way, were being killed by high taxes and ineffective policies. Listen for the POP.
Yup, I agree with Mikey. Sorry folks, but sometimes when genocide is taking place you have to hammer someone. Now Mikey, I will also say you came out early for this, as did I. Then you did the typical retreat when your cowardly prez failed to make a decision. You likely felt the need to defend him by saying nothing. I'd expect no less from a party liner like yourself. But as things stand now I'm with you all the way. Target the Kadooofy guy and fly one up his anal cavity. This move is the right move. I agree with you.
If he would of acted sooner like I said all that would have been needed was a No Fly Zone now we need much more, should have acted sooner. You can sa Mike I was ahead of you on this one hewased valueabl time when there is conflict like thisall you do is give the enemy time to move logistics get better organized he has cos us alot more money.....
I wanted to believe America does the right thing. Instead Libya in just another country with "bubblin crude."
"Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea."
Next up Venezuela.
International oil corporations decide whats in the best interest for them and Americans pay the bill and are expected to die to increase profits for their world stock holder.
All the while China and Russia sit this one out again.
who cares? What is reality. No war no war no war.
Don't Bogart That joint , my friend, roll another one...
Libya: I mentioned to the Mayor that Quaddaffi’s armed forces were fighting on the coast of North Africa, dictating action with a Small navy and a very weak Air force in a raw barely coordinated manner. The fighting has rolled up the cost and Quadaffi has taken back some towns from the Rebels. Rebels are underequipped anti Quadaffi troops and have in many ways shown guts and steadfastness, by turning around the same night and taking the town they lost that day, back once again which shows tremendous resiliency on their part. Right back that night I tell you. So the rebels appear a little rag-tagged, but here's the thing, they also were saying we’re ready to fight and they say we will win. I feel the rebels can win, and will win, because Quadaffi and his sons are buying their Army and their technology is getting less effective every day. In anything like a fair fight the Rebels win. I stay with the Rebels and wish I could be with them in their fight for freedom they are waging. With Air support they could have made Tripoli. Lack of support led to their setbacks, the Quadaffi people would not have stood up against air attack like the rebels. They’re not true believers just mercenary mentalities. Evidently its being reported a long shot for Rebels if they can’t get air cover.

Mayor and Dan I thought you might find this article from the 'Nation' and the involvment of our woman leadersip:
"Obama's Women of War
Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and Samantha Power pushed Obama into accepting the demands of neoconservatives and enter the civil war in Libya.
The following article first appeared in the Nation. For more great content from the Nation, sign up for their email newsletters here.
So Obama’s women wanted war against Libya. We’d like to think that women in power would somehow be less pro-war, but in the Obama administration it appears that the bellicosity is worst among Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and Samantha Power. All three are liberal interventionists, and all three seem to believe that when the United States exercises military force it has some profound, moral, life-saving character to it. Far from it. Unless President Obama’s better instincts manage to reign in his warrior women -- and happily, there’s aa chance of that -- the United States could find itself engaged in open war in Libya, and soon. The troika pushed Obama into accepting the demands of neoconservatives, such as the Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol, Joe Lieberman and John McCain, along with various other liberal interventionists outside the administration, such as John Kerry. The rode roughshod over the realists in the administration."

I read that article too, Mikey. Kind of interesting. We are in an era where only women have balls. Regarding John Kerry, I have no idea. Some would watch people get loaded into ovens. After all, it was an internal matter.
I got a suggestion. Don't try to explain the use of force to someone like Dannie. For all his years in the motor pool, he will never understand. If he had his way, we would never have reason enough to fight for anything. If we had let Kaduufy go, he would have methodically murdered tens of thousands. Is that something we are willing to watch? Some are. Mikey, don't let your partisan alliances influence what in this case is common sense on your part.
Oh, wah. G. Dub sends us off to two wars without so much as a whimper from the Lame Stream Media or anyone else. Hillary sends us on a humanitarian mission that shouldn't take but a week - tops - and The Right is whining about the cost. Now THAT's funny!!
Blue puke. Evul comes through again.
Yes Evul. The MSM never said a thing again George Bush. Sober works.
