Budget Coming to a Head....But Reform Will Be Difficult

The Governor's Medicaid reform team has reported and its supposed to mean less trips to the ER for the poor who will supposedly be prevented from using hospitals as their first stop for minor health issues...
This Tuesday the Governor's panel on mandate reform reports...That will be interesting, but with today's fuss in Wisconsin, don't expect our state Legislature to touch anything that labor wants untouched...That includes the Wicks Law and the Taylor Law. Any restrictions or revisions to these laws will quickly be cast as eliminating collective bargaining and that will mean the unions will crack the whip...
Once Ron McDougall says 'oh no you don't' even NNY lawmakers tremble.

I skimmed through the NY constitution yesterday after wondering about changing the delegate rules. I noticed that enshrined in there is the right of the workers to collectively bargain. So we need a constitution change.

Cuomo's policy should free up some space at the ER for us paying customers but it will take money away from hospitals that are a lot like schools...they are inefficient and run the way because they are unionized and dictated by the court system.

I was in the ER at Carthage last week and the service was worse than at McDonald's. Two girls eating lunch and chit chatting made me wait until they were good and ready to take my info. Then a nurse came out to take me to my room and she clearly had never heard of shampoo and would have been sent home if she showed up at McDonald's to work like that. Next the head nurse took my paper in one hand as she was chewing on her snacks and pointed to the nurse that would take me to my room.

There was no welcoming, no briefing, no sense of seriousness in regard to doing a good job.

A real business would send out questionnaires and ask about my experience. Oligopolies don't have to care about such things.

There will be no reform. There will be no cuts, no sacrifice. Not yet. Get ready to pay more to the special interests.

Umm- Why slam McDonald's? Kids working their first job at minimum wage. They learn how to work, how to be on time, all that stuff, and it doesn't take one cent of government money to do it.

In fact, McDonalds pays LOTS in taxes.

Maybe you should have cited the DMV? :-)

Hey 316 why shouldn't public employees have a right to unionize?
