Substance vs Fluff...The Challenge in Albany

Closing an "integrity deficit", a property tax cap....no new taxes...defying Democratic orthodoxy by letting the surcharge tax on the rich expire....These are things Andrew Cuomo is talking about...
But if you listen to the news about the new laws taking effect...The centerpiece of the Legislature's year is a law requiring caution and deference when driving near an emergency vehicle....You know...what we all have done for years...Yielding..pulling over...giving such vehicles a wide berth....
This law surely resulted from a tragedy, but it's the kind of nonsensical legislating the obvious that takes too much of Albany's time....
No, I am not advocating running into ambulances or cops...I am saying good drivers have done these things for years...We didn't need a law or the threat of a ticket.
The Legislature needs to stop the nonsense and focus on real issues and not press release laws.

Just like you should stop the nonsense and focus on running our city.

You you pass press releases but act as if this blog is the be all in the news business, meanwhile the city residents flee to the Town of Watertown because they are tired of rocking around on bumpy streets or drug infested neighborhoods.

We have ourselves a very bitter, angry man. He must be a very big part of that foolish system Jeff discusses, or he wouldn't defend it so.

Wonder how our local reps voted on this? And what they think of it.

What, he wants to let tax surcharges on the rich expire. He can't do that. That's like favoring the rich. That's just terrible. Who cares if they've discovered the rich just move their money. We have to remain stupid on that issue. That's the Donkey way. We hate the rich. Git'em. They are bad peeeple. He can't do that. That's the most terrible thing I've ever heard. Lies, woe, disgust, puke. We can't ever, ever lower taxes on the rich. Not in a progressive state. Oh MY, Oh MY. Has my friend Dan heard about this? Or Mikey? They won't stand for this. We can't think like that. Never give in.

Its the challenge in Watertown too.

Mayor Graham: “The pending Day of Reckoning for state and local government likely means government will not grow further and the extent to which Governor Cuomo proposes real change will determine where we head.” I’d like to think you might consider reducing property taxes, not just capping them, setting a big example for surrounding areas to follow suit. Another good place to start in 2011 is that your open to suggestions on how to relieve the tax burden of Middle-Class and Working Class home owners. I’d like to hear a different tune about attracting companies and factories to our area. This is an area that can be sold to Corporate America, but it will take a pro-active Mayor with ‘Vision’ who doesn’t rely on some other entity to sell the Watertown area to Corporate America. I really feel very strongly about this.
