Former Assemblywoman Diedre Scozzafava will be taking a six figure income into her final years in the state system...but the $100,000 post in the Department of State is only slightly higher than what she was making in the Assembly. In 2009, Scozzafava made roughly $98K but that dropped in 2010 after the former Gouverneur mayor started endorsing Democrats following her unsuccessful 2009 bid for Congress.
She still would be better off being an MTA cop for her final years...or maybe one of those high overtime jobs handing out Xanax at a state psychiatric center.
But she did make lemonaid out of the lemons of her crash and burn campaign for Congress.

She is the perfect politician.
She stand for nothing, other than herself. And in NYS that can get you a long ways. She will always have a problem though, unless she changes her name. People remember people with no personal integity.
Shameful -- This woman should be out on her ear and yet she continues to feed in the public trough.
The type of deal is the embodiment of what is wrong with politics - a sleazy business with no redeeming value at all that most decent folks have little use for .
When she comes back as a donkey she will win whatever seat she runs for. She is still very popular in the North Country. She has a history of backing only the cream of the crop.
That's exactly right, 9:48. She switches and flops and bends for whatever is popular at that moment. She stands for nothing at all. I believe real Democrats will be thankful you did not use a capital letter when you wrote "donkey". If it really came down to it, she would turn on them too. I have no use for people who believe in nothing. Opposition is one thing. Shifting values designed for personal gain are another.
In Times of tough Budgets, and the working man threatened with layoffs nice to know Dede will be taken care of, as well as her labor boss hubbie, plenty of cash to invest in Tom's latest venture, When AJR time runs out she'll get the same. This is why were in tough times because of the 2 party system.
I don't understand why people say she lacks integrity. The easiest thing in the world for her to have done would have been to come out as anti abortion and anti gay marriage. She would be a congresswoman today if she had towed that line. But that is not who she is so she followed her conscience and lost the election. Of the three, she still would be the best candidate.
936 - thanks Judy. Glad to see you're still on the government dole.
Dede lost that election because she wasn't prepared for the big stage. This is the perfect position for her to hide in the irrelevant realm of Albany. If Cuomo really meant what he said he'd have tossed out whatever deal she made with the DCCC to get Owens elected. But no, even he has to play the political game.
If someone was smart they'd stake out Dede's travel records and time sheets (if she even has to document her hours worked for a six-figure salary). I bet she works about fifty days a year. WHAT A LIFE and SHE GET A PENSION BASED ON THE LAST THREE YEARS - $100,000.
Couldn't agree more 936, although i disagree with her stance on those issues the fact that she had the guts to stand for what she believed in speaks volumes to me about her credibility. It is like Aubertine, he went against his side of the aisle on those same issues and took major beatings for it in Albany, but he stood on what he believed in and showed backbone.
Compare them to Patty Ritchie, who was pro choice, and then when it was popular to be pro life because of the need for tea party support she flipped... showing zero backbone. I'll take the rep who stands up for what they believe in, any day over the one who stands for whatever is popular at the time.
We are lucky to have Dede and Darrel in the governors administration looking out for NNY, especially considering our most senior voice in Albany is Jenne-Russell. But i am sure im in the minority in saying that because it is much easier and popular to dump on our past public servants. So hate away!
Dede had her own campaign. At the end she knew she was a loser. She responded by taking her toys and running home, concentrating not on her beliefs, which turned out to be nonexistant, but her efforts to obtain a payoff for her future. It has nothing to do with party. It has to do with standing for absolutely nothing but herself.
Amen 2:13!! I didn't always agree with her positions either, but at least she had the strength of character to stand by what she beleived in. A profile in courage indeed. And a rarity in poltics today.
She stood by what she believed in only until she realized would lose. Then, she apparantly lost her beliefs in anything at all, changed all that she was advocating, and made deals that would provide her with pay off jobs when the election was over. That has nothing to do with courage. That has to do with self perservation. I view her as a worthless, selfcentered woman who can always be trusted to look out for herself. You defenders will never be able to explain away the last second shift of beliefs. It was probably easier for her than we realize, as she never had any beliefs in the first place. Things worked out. She's now a high level, unelected sleazy politicial with no personal standards whatsoever.
