Newzjunky - Rep. Owens Keeps Mum on Mercy, Says Long-Term Senior Care Is a 'Huge Issue'

In his campaigns for Congress, Rep. Bill Owens has been enthusiastically supported by senior health care and hospital officials from this area and Thursday they hosted him with a tour of the newly renovated Samaritan Medical Center. The show and tell was overshadowed by the fate Mercy Healthcare which is slated for closure in 2013. Mr. Owens did not address that issue but instead talked about long term care and ObamaCare legislation he supported in 2009.

I skimed the story on NJ a little fast. Did I understand him to be taking partial credit for our HEAL grant? I thought Aubertine got that pork for us?

Where's Patty on Mercy? Does she even know where it is yet?

Old folks care is a simple issue. As soon as you approach old age, you hide your assets. Any good lawyer can walk you through it, but just like slip and fall boys there are folks who specialize in it. Then, when you have your stroke or can't function any more the taxpayers pay for everything and you give as much money as possible to your kids. The worst thing you can do is try to save money for it. Believe me, this is what smart people and people with means do. Bums are locked into the system much earlier, so they're safe.

Good comment 7:16 but there can be more to it.
I saw this on judge Judy…
A girl is collecting unemployment.
From what? She was taking care of her grandmother who had Alzheimer’s.
Who paid her? A grant program.
Why is she not still doing it?
So she can go to school.
Who is taking care of grandma now? Her mother.

So if you don’t want to put grandma in the home you can get the government to pay for you to take care of her and quit and get unemployment and pay for your college too.
I believe this case was downstate.

Yup, that college thing is a new game, made possible by schtimulus money from the Great One borrowed from the Chinese. A lot of the bums I know are now students at JCC. I was a payoff to the people who teacher people to become social workers lobby. We will be able to borrow more money from the Chinese to hire them as soon as they are out of JCC. Its for the children.

It does not matter if you are considered low-income, middle-income, or high-income; no matter where you go in life, 10 percent will always take advantage of a system designed to help those in need; which only gives a bad name to everyone else.

Rick, I understand what you are saying and disagree with none of it. But there gets to be a point where you have to ask yourself. At what point do you cease to be a responsible person and become a fool when you work for a living and watch while others enjoy the vote buying grants financed by outright theft from those who try to support themselves? I doubt if your 10% is accurate any more, and I realize you stated that just as a principle. But the number is more likely 30, or 35%, and growing. And the libs will tell you the problem is people like you won't pay your fair share in taxes. Whether it is our education serves, police, fire, alcohol and drug assistance, whatever. The same people milk the system and cost the most money. By far. And the system is US. How many people can have ADHD? How many people can be on disability? Are those limits defined by how many lawyers our society can support?

I'm with ya, Rick. I didn't mean to sound otherwise. I forgot what I was talking about. I must have some kind of disorder. If only I could find a way to get a check from it. Anybody know a good lawyer?
