The interesting thing in this story is that there are state prisons in Manhattan....Two facing possible closure along with another one in the Bronx...All with high vacancy rates and in tight budget times tempting targets for closure...
The NY Post reports six or more state prisons may be slated for closure in the budget to be unveiled on Tuesday.
Governor Cuomo has already said prisons should not exist merely to employ people....Agreed, and any hopes of closing several upstate prisons will likely hinge on the fate of NYC prisons....You can bet the Mayor and the local Assembly members and Senators will be lobbying to keep those jobs, whether or not the facilities make sense.
The factors that will be looked at should include utilization and cost per inmate.
This will be an interesting week ahead.

Tuesday is the day all anticipate. With 3 prisons closures in NYC, upstate will be hard press to call foul. Governor Cuomo has 71 percent approval rating at this time and he has momentum.
The Senate and Assembly have only a 17 percent approval rating I believe the odds favor Cuomo.

And tonight it is announced that Cuomo is scaling back on his plans to close prisons. Oh my aching ass. I am so surprised. And this was likely the easiest of the cuts to make. Wait till StatusCuomo takes on a poor teacher. What were you saying Addie, this was going to be a tough year? BS. Its gonna be the same ol same ol.
Goodbye OCF, its been nice knowing you, but it will also be nice to have all these corrupt pols silenced on who saved what...at the end of the day no one saved anything.
12:17 How about saving some taxpayers? Doesn't that count? Why do you measure success by how many government cesspools we save? And as far as it being nice to have known OCF, you're right. As long as you are one of the state employees who got one of the nice jobs out of it. Taxpayers never really looked at it as you do.
