Governor Cuomo is using an old techinique to get things done in the capital. He is entertaining legislators at the Victorian era Executive Mansion on Eagle Street.....The use of hospitality is juxtaposed to the dueling press conference techiniques of the modern era.
The Governor gets lawmakers on his turf...gives a little history lesson about the house he spent his younger years in when his dad was Governor....Then he chats them up on budget issues..in effect softening them up for what they will find is tough news on Tuesday.
In the end, legislators will be hard pressed not to back the interests of their districts, but Mr. Cuomo's approach shows he knows how to use the trappings of the office...That's something the cold Eliot Spitzer...the detached George Pataki...and the bumbling David Paterson had trouble doing.
Andrew Cuomo enjoys a 71% approval rating in the Marist Poll released yesterday...He will need to use that political capital and every other technique at his disposal in the weeks ahead.

Don't forget that he enjoys a 99% approval rating in the media and by our city mayor. I cannot wait to see his approval rating once he actually DOES something.
He's in office to "service" the people. I recall as a kid on the farm being told the artifical breeder was coming to "service" a couple heifers so I stayed around to watch...before he "serviced" them he gave 'em a few pats on the back and stroked them a bit.
Andy is doing much the same...a few pats and some stroking then he'll service us good and proper.
I am still trying to figure out where Jeff draws that censorship line. I don't find the above comment funny or clever...and I laugh at even the least funny and sophomoric of the comments. It might be different if there was some underlying meaning or point...but it was lacking that too.
Cuomo is getting the herd ready for slughter. I agree he has a great rating at this point but he has done nothing but strut.
When they cut medicaid and education the liberals will be screaming, special interest will start the charge and he will see a drop in his rating. At that point we will see how much this blue state is fed up with the highest tax rate in the county.
