The political wags are suggesting a widening rift between President Obama and NY Senator Charles Schumer...The flash point was said to be the tax rate debate over extending current rates past this year. Politicos like Schumer wanted to use the debate for some class warfare to rally the nation against those millionaires and billionaires.
The President wanted to avoid that fight and reach a compromise with the GOP.
It will be interesting to see of the leftist President is ostracized by his own as he tries to respond to the will of the people as expressed in an election.
Of course, Senator Schumer's reelection was never in doubt so he didn't have to face the defeats and close calls many in his party did last month.

Gee, Jeff, it couldn't just be that Schumer is right, now could it? Fact is, the President's plan isn't much of a deal, unless you are a member of the super wealthy.
Couple of things the media hasn't been saying much about...if you make in the $50,000.00 range, tax cut or no tax cut-either way it has little effect on your bottom line. If you are a low income worker (newsflash Jeff, many in the North Country are) making under $20,000.00, you will actually pay more taxes.
Class warfare? Ubetcha Palin lover! The middle class on down are under attack from the super wealthy.
Schumer is right on this.
Mayor says campaign is over but still goes after Sen. Charles Schumer in partisan tone:
Senator Schumer stood up to be counted at a time when people in Congress are ducking for cover. Sometimes analysis can lead to paralysis, or inaction; and inaction won't cut it right now for Democrats. President Obama has taken a hard right towards the center as I predicted he would and the run for the White House in 2012 is on as of Jan 1, 2011. Having said we understand what he's doing, the Presidents execution of going to the center is a harder right then might have be expected. He doesn't have to jettison the left wing of his party, but he does have to get everyone to understand that give and take is the order of the day. This isn't an empty phrase and applies to the Republican right and Conservatives and the Tea Party as well, who will also now have to engage in some give and take over the next two years. Chuck Schumer is saying look, I am a Democrat and proud of it. I'm proud of him for saying it. The President, would do well to be as forceful with the Republican Party he seeks to court, as he has been with the left wing of his own Democratic Party. Time to tell the Republican Right and the Conservative and Tea Parties, the the federal deficit is a 'National Security' issue, and the top two Richest percent of this economy are going to have to do their part and let, 'The Bush Tax Cuts,' lapse in the next year. That will send the world a message that along with cutting spending, and growing our economy, deficit reduction is still on the table for America. Give and take within the Democratic and Republican Party is something that all centrist or moderates can accomplish if their sincere. People screaming for cuts in the Military, when we're engaged in two wars, had better think long and hard about how deep military cuts should be. No sacred cows! Fine. The 'Richest' two percent of this economy needs to set an example here. They're also not sacred cows, and should just seek to help rally the nation towards fiscal responsibility and the earmark reduction they preached during the 2010 election. Sen. Schumer stands for Jobs and Tax relief for the Middle-Class. Are you on record that a Middle-Class exists these days Mayor?
Middle-Class Mike
The "message" of the last election was not that "the wealthy need more". I do hope that is how the Republicans perceive it, though.
The previous messages truely illuminate the Socialist class warfare that does exist in this country at the present time. Doesn't ANYONE understand even the most basic rules of economics anymore? It is also obvious from the previous statements that very few people understand the principles upon which this country was founded either.
Nobody's actually getting a 'Tax Cut'. The FEDS are simply continuing with the one that is already in effect from BushCo.
