Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day 2010...or Armistice Day if you prefer. I will join local vets at the VFW this morning as I do every November 11 and Memorial Day.
Take time out today to honor those who served !

And while its technically a government holiday, other things don't stop. I will be participating in the taping of an episode of the Public Eye with Jeff Cole at the studios of WPBS. The topic is Mercy Healthcare and its aftermath.
For the City the real topic is the plan to abandon the Stone Street facility in two to three years in favor of a new nursing home on Washington Street next to the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. That site is topographically challenged and would require additional land purchased. We have respectfully ask that redevelopment on the Stone Street parcels be considered, although control of the property is an issue.
There is also the matter of the accruing taxes and water bills, which we feel will not be paid as the current owners know we cannot cut them off and the loss of the property through tax sale would coincide when they want out anyway.
I look forward to the discussion.

A brief rmembrance of a Veteran named Red, who I knew and at the time we had this conversation, still ran his own advertising agency. Ed McMahon of 'Johnny Carson' fame was hosting a documentary on the invasion of 'Iwo Jima' that night on local Television, and I knew that Red had as a 17 year old during WWII, served on that hell hole as a marine. I asked him, "Red what was a vivid memory from 'Iwo Jima' that you might share with me? "He looked at me as if from away and said, "The island was 'Volcanic' and you couldn't just sit on the ground without burning your butt." His eyes kind of grew misty and I thought it best to move the conversation along.

To all 'Veterans' everywhere, my wife included, "Thank-you for your service."

Another day hijacked by the militarists.

Today is Armistice Day, a day intended to celebrate Peace coming, as it did, after the conclusion of the especially horrific WWI.

But Peace does not purpose The State. Certainly not Uncle Sam who has found need for constant war the past 70 years.

Want to "honor" "Veterans"? Then simply stop creating more.

Come Home, America.

4:55 go back to smoking you dope as you did in the 60's. Peace comes only through strength. This is not an " Uncle Sam " idea it is the human race throughout history. God bless our men and women who understand this and keep us safe.

Just don't put an American flag on your bike and ride it to school. An administrator will tell you to go home and take it off. Not allowed.
