With an air of optimism, Congressional hopeful Matt Doheny and his fellow GOP candidates for state office rallied at Watertown's VFW this afternoon.....It was just hours after former President Bill Clinton rallied nearby with Rep. Bill Owens.
Republicans are optimistic and the polls suggest they have reason to be, but the race in NY23 is still considered close, thus Mr. Clinton's visit.
Mr. Doheny said this race is the most pivotal in a generation as there is a need to roll back the taking over by the government of various industries.
Also present were Senate candidate Patty Ritchie, and Assembly hopefules David Forsythe and Ken Blankenbush.

This is the year of the GOP (regardless of what MCM may say)and I (along with many political scientists) see the country supporting the Republican candidates tomorrow. The Obamanomics and Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid agenda have destroyed the Democrat's views as the "Middle Class Party" as they have supported socialized healthcare and allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire. Come tomorrow evening, I look forward to seeing America and NYS switch from blue to red as the Republicans take control of the House, come close to control in the Senate, gain a handful of seats in the NYS Assembly, and take control of the NYS Senate. We may have some hope for this country after all...
Doheny said, "... there is a need to roll back the taking over by the government of various industries."
Excuse me, what industries has government "taken over" that has not already moved to China, India or Timbuktu, Mr. Doheny?
"Roll back to the good old days," right Mr. Doheny. No regs, less regs, dereg and then runaway Wall Street?
Check...
I was amused at the friends and supporters of Darrel
there who absolutely hated Clinton morals.
Now that Darrel is struggling with ethics and they think old Bill can get them some votes and save Darrel from his crooked ways, they love him.
Well this is the time we need to make sure we support the candidates who are going to represent us. Addie and Darrel haven't done that yet. They both do whatever they are told. Ownes falls right in line with Nancy. We need some new blood by new leaders. And right now, those new leaders are Matt Doheny, Patty Ritchie, and Dave Forsythe.
I know many business's just got the price tag for Obamacare seeing over 50% increases in the healthcare that hurt not only the business, but the workers. It's amazing how caught up in Obama and Pelosi Owens was. If Owens read the bill why did Owens not warn us at least?! It's sad really. Doheny is a clear choice for common sense.
Republicans have no new ideas. Lower taxes and less government is what got our country into the current economic mess. The Democratic Party is the only force stopping Wall Street and the right wing from destroying the middle class.
5:53 if it wasn't for Dannie's early statement, yours would be the dumbest yet. If you think lowering taxes is what got this country into its current problems there is no hope for you. We have spent our way into this. We can certainly argue the reasons as to why. But it wasn't taxation. Government on all levels has grown to a level of foolishness, all to provide industry, schools, Dannie types, and every special interest under the sun Free Stuff. That is what has caused our problems.
Dannie, you need to know an industry that has been "taken over" that had not already moved? Tryt the auto industry. Now they are owned by our government, who provides just what the UAW demands with taxpayer monies and unlike the bank bailouts, we can expect this to go on forever. GM, Government Motors. You can expect them to be good now. But wait, we'll give you a good, taxpayer financed way to to buy one. And unlike Ford, they now won't have to change the way they do business. They can just operate at a loss, our loss. Forever.
Well everyone good luck with your choices its gunna be a long day tomorrow.
Since you mentioned Mr. Blankenbush being there, it's fair to comment.
I heard Mr. Blankenbush debate Mr. McGrath on Friday. While Mr. Blankenbush was not as smooth as Mr. McGrath, I thought that his answers were solid and honest. I didn't hear any specifics from Mr. McGrath on how we create jobs. I heard a lot of platitudes. Sure the same old saw, lower taxes and fees. That's fine but how. I didn't hear that.
More concerning was Mr. Grath's total misunderstanding of healthcare finance. He minimizes the effects of the costs of defensive medicine, and instead, diverts the question to a 15 year old case of misdiagnosis. Frankly, I doubt his interpretation. It as probably not as clear cut as he says it is. He no doubt relies on a paid expert witness to look through the retrospectoscope and declare such a "clear cut" case. He was manipulating like a trial lawyer. The trial lawyers do that all the time. In fact, in New York, the defense doesn't even know the name of the "expert" witness until the last moment. The hired guns are known as "whores" in the malpractice industry -- and that is exactly what it is -- an industry for trial lawyers.
I was hounded for seven years by a trial lawyer who used an "expert" that masqueraded as a heart surgeon, who hadn't done heart surgery for decades. He lied about it and cost me $120,000 out of my own pocket. There was not one jot of malpractice. We proved that he was a fake, and in cooperation with the US attorney, had him indicted, stripped of his license, board certifications, and put in jail. Name is Alex Zakharia -- google it and look it up. I’m proud to say that he’s toast. He was failed doctor who couldn’t practice medicine. That’s was most of them are.
No, Mr. McGrath will expand the tort liability system and that is the last thing we need. Mr. Blankenbush, has my vote and encouragement.
I concur that republicans likely take the House and have an outside shot at the Senate, but they would be foolish to consider it a victory. If they govern like they have in the recent past, another landslide in 2012 is sure to bury them.

Western NY is now Democratic, and after tomorrow will remain Democratic, because the, 'Middle and Working Class,' families of this district understand that Democratic politics will point towards real 'Property Tax Relief,' and a real effort to put more disposable income into the hands of the Middle-Class and Working Class families. The Democrats are committed to phasing out the 'Bush Tax Cuts' over the next year or two and you can take that to the bank. The Republicans have no plan!
MCM,
You realize the Watertown area is considered northern and not western new york?
Mr Johnson, the lack of tort reform was the main reason why Owens/Pelosi's vote was so damaging. It had to be part of the package. The fact that it wasn't shows how corrupt the Democratic party has become. That is also why Owens/Pelosi is going down, tomorrow. He is a disgrace.
I think the problem is the 2 party system, On one hand you have the tax and spend Liberals, On the other the party of no. What we need is a new outlook on things not the same old patronage rewards when one party leaves and the other takes over. AJR, Aubertine, are now hypnotized by Albany, Owens is nothing more than a yes boy for Pelosi. If there's a change it will be the same old system.
Middle class Mike is a cut and paste operative who
just blew his cover. At least Wiley and Francis are real.
Middle Class Mike, has no idea where he is he just knows how to put people down and its back fired on him.His bad mouthing the canidates on both side of the isle is a horrible example of how Democrats realy are!!!People in NNY who have grown up here this is a Republican area.Tomorow we will send you people on the first flight out past polling time Middle Class Mike when you go back to albany or NYC please tell them that Juston says hey how ya doin. Its been nice blogging you into smitherenes Mike, you should have done your research on the issues your so out of touch this Middle Class Tag that you have rolled with is overated everyone is suffering The rich are in scurry mode its bigger than Democrats and Republicans is a national problem we need sound people with energy and skills to go in find the waste we need somebody thats hungrie for resources young energetic theres alot old fogies in the house.Bill Owens will just be another speck on the wall.Matt Doheny,Patty Ritchie,Ken Blankenbush,Harry Wilson,David Forsythe. When I walk in the school to vote I will only be seeing one thing RED,RED,RED Democrats have had there shot its time to change it up....
Anon: 6:03 - you do know that once the auto giants repay their loans (bailout money), which they mostly have already, that they regain 100% control don't you? Ooops - you kinda forgot that eh.
May I suggest you and everyone else review this short 6-minute video before you vote tomorrow - it may help explain things.
Average Bear meets Tea Bear
~ Dan Francis
No they don't, Dan. With our money, the UAW was GIVEN ownership of GM. That will not change, despite any repayment of loans. The taxpayer purchased a large share of the auto industry, handed it over to the union, Free. Again, it's the Free Stuff for someone that you love. Now they can operate any way they wish and we, the taxpayers will be around to pick up the tab. Please don't lie about these things. You are one of the most informed guys I know. You had to know this to be the truth. The only difference between the bank bailout and the purchase and giveaway of GM is this is an open ended screwing. It will go on and on. The UAW, in the pockets of your Donkey party, will be just like you. They will get their checks in the mail.
Obama and the current crop of democrats have proven to the American people that they are incapable of governing. We need to replace Owens for complacently sanctioning incompetent Pelosi policy, such as Obamacare. The voters realize this and will do so tomorrow.
Then middle class Mike can return to ACORN headquarters and say he gave it the ol' college try, to no avail.
anon 8:14PM and mentally Challanged Juston, I wanted to include Carl and Buffalo in our thinking if thats okay, and even if its not.
Now to something important.
THANKING MAYOR GRAHAM (WDT COMMENT)
Mayor Graham is man's man, unwilling to live for the opinion of others, and willing to set sail for the open shores that await men of his calibre as a reward for the adventerous spirit that is a gift from God to the very best of humankind. I've known one or two other human beings like Mr. Graham, and I tell you now that when he leaves the stage he now possesses as Mayor of Watertown, NY, you will miss him with the understanding that someone truely irreplacable has left your life and that it will always be just a little more empty as a result. I wanted to publicly thank the Mayor, for being kind enough to impart his political knowledge and incite to a political wannabee like me. Thanks, Mayor,
Michael Flynn (Middle-Class Mike)
this elections is "the most pivotal in a generantion." I'm guessing we wont here people say that phrase until 2012.
