New York's cliffhanger: Who will run the state Senate? | syracuse.com

The most likely scenario in the State Senate may be a 31-31 tie....And according to experts the Lieutenant Governor only can break ties on procedural matters and not on legislation or the budget.
It will be up to lawmakers to make the process work, something they have had problems with or late.
Now one of the remaining close races could flip one way or the other thus giving one party the edge...Most likely the GOP.

That article is wrong, as Thompson is currently trailing Grasanti by over 400 votes. http://www.buffalonews.com/city/politics/article241385.ece
That means the most likely result is a 32-30 GOP majority. Only about 80% of precinets in the Oppenheimer-Cohen race have reported yet, meaning Cohen could very well pull ahead giving the GOP a 33-29 majority. Given that NYC has grown some, the GOP will probably need at least a 33-29 majority to have a good chance of staying in the majority forore than a term or two.

I gotta agree with 1050, I think Thompson loses the recount and absentees there and its 32-30. Good for our new Senator-elect...welcome to the Majority folks.

Hopefully the GOP will not ruin their chance.. They have the majority plus one vote that will vote downstate every time.. Patti Ritchie... Watch the Senator close folks and see what ya brought on..
Also just a little gloat.. Her County Clerk Job will go to DeDe if she wants it and I,m sure she will take it. If she dont want it the Governor may listen to Ritchies request buts that doubtful

Well, when the GOP formerly had a majority in the Senate it prevented the annual plethora of garbage laws that passed the assembly from going any further than whatever senate committee they were assigned to. It wasn't a perfect system, but it did provide a check and balance to the moronic N.Y. City buffoons who controlled the assembly.

Maybe we can get Addie Jenne to play double agent. While she's cleaning Sheldon's office we can use her to gain info on what is going to be introduced on the Assembly floor.
