Cuomo: End chaos in Senate

The Governor-elect is pleading with the Court of Appeals to speed up vote counts in three state senate races that will determine what party controls the body....Andrew Cuomo says a dysfunctional Senate is bad for the state.
The Senate is likely to end up 32-30 Republican, meaning another two years of everyone having to vote with leadership on every vote or else.
The scramble to drag out the process makes you wonder why we cannot just have people vote...count the votes and move one.
Instead we argue over who is eligible to vote after they vote....try to brow beat people into recanting their vote...tell everyone we want all the votes to count then do otherwise......
Surely somebody can just sit down and count the stacks of paper ballots in these three Senate districts....But that's not what the parlor game of politics in Albany calls for....So look for it all to drag on.
As for Mr. Cuomo begging the Court of Appeals to get the election resolved....Just doing that speaks volumes of the electoral system we have.

We can track Richie's votes here then, right? I am confident she will vote her conscience and not fall in at the end of the line.

Ritchie will vote party and follow the leader. She sold her sole before the election. If she crosses party lines ever it will be with the parties understanding and will be a vote that is meaninless and already decided.. Mayor the previous blogger had a good idea.. Tell us how towatch her voting record or will it be posted here..

7:36. What do you think members of a political party do? They work together. Does ya don't think that's happenin in the Assembly? Are you drinkin' enough bottled water, fool?

Patty Ritchie will not and can not vote in lock step with the Long Island delegation that got her elected. She promised to restore the STAR rebates and she campaigned to roll back last year's tax increases; including the sin taxes. As a smoker, that was the reason I voted for her. Since the Republicans (Senate and Governor) raised our property taxes and fees throughout 90's and 2000's she would have to vote against them as they continue their business as usual. Lets hold Ritchie to her campaign promises and support her as she votes against her Long Island and NYC campaign donors.

"meaning another two years of everyone having to vote with leadership on every vote or else."

How about senators voting their conscience and goth parties working together to solve the state's problems?

If Darrel voted his conscience then, why did he support the prison census bill and the big subsidies for film producers, while our taxes rose and rose?

Watch and learn the only change is the locus of power shifted to LawnGUYLAND -- otherwise not much different in terms of outcomes that actually will be achieved . LI's needs will be met Skelos will make sure of that .

Don't hold your breath for tax relief or elimination of pork or party hackery or eliminating the 3 DOWNSTATERS in the Room .

Prove me wrong in the next 2 yrs and i'll believe otherwise -- till then its the SAME old Song n'Dance

It WILL be the same old song and dance. Until we start to demand and accept less Free Stuff. Yesterday's WDT had yet another press release from the school czars. The story was full of lies and quoted the superintendents of South Jeff, Sackets and others. There was no questioning of anything the great educators said. All the misinformation was just printed as it dripped out of their mouths. They were defending the need to avoid limits to tax increases. They also repeated the usual lie about how they have cut budgets. The WDT obediently printed the BS. Until we become smarter voters, which is difficult when there is a dishonest media, the "same old" is what we will get, be them Elephants or Donkeys. You can't bitch folks, this is what you want. As long as you believe the lies fed to you by Mister Johnson's NYSUT newletter, you will get this kind of spending and refusal to address fiscal reality.

5:19,

Instead of having only 5 upstate members in the Senate majority caucus, there will be 20 members. If you don't think that makes a difference, you're in denial.
